For over 2,000 years, an incredible Japanese tradition has seen women freediving 13-65 feet down into the sea to collect pearls and bivalves. Nearly 200 years ago, some of these Ama divers came to Monterey and left an incredible mark on our history and culture. This Thursday, come learn more about these amazing women and the work they do with a free evening with the Monterey JACL () and historian Tim Thomas!

Learn about the exhibit and dive into this fascinating history from 5:30-7:30pm on this special night. Admission is free but seating is limited, so please sign up at the link below or in our b!0 to reserve yours!

Connect with nature for mental health on a hike with us! Led by Kelly Goldberg, a therapist and outdoor educator with a specialty in guiding nature-based insights and personal discovery guided activities, we’ll take a walk in the woods to center ourselves and connect with each other as we explore the beautiful natural areas we have around us.

This can be a great way to quiet down some of those hard voices in your head and feel more at peace. Plus, when we say hike, we mean you do some up and down, we promise this one isn't for mountain goats, and there will time to stop, hydrate, and attune with the world around you. This week’s collection item was a Potato Bug (Ammopelmatus sp.)! These large nocturnal insects may look fearsome but they are not venomous or aggressive, however they can emit a foul smell and inflict a painful bite if provoked! Great guesses everyone, try again next week!
