Show Statement:

Parroquia is a show revolving around love , devotion , and heartache. This body of work channels
agony, upheaval, and the grief of losing lovers. Getting over a lover is not a straight line from
pain to peace; it's an active unweaving of trauma and distress. There's not one way to heal, or
get over a love interest. These are my works about that and I hope you find some affirmation in
it.

Who do you think you are?
by Cynthia Smith

Friday July 3rd 6-10 PM
BFF Gallery
5901 Maple Street

Artist Statement:

My work explores themes of personal identity, duality and change. When people are met with adversity and tragedy it changes them. A physician sees people in their darkest hours. Facing events that are so life changing that their life becomes measured by the before and after. They are faced with the reality that beauty and ugliness can and do exist simultaneously in us and in the world. A noxious w**d can also be a beautiful flower. What if we are fundamentally different than how we used to view ourselves? What do we show the world and what do we hide? What happens when we ask ourselves, who do you think you are?
