Locomotive Tuesday 🚂

Kennecott Mining Company Caboose #425, built in February 1942 by Pacific Car & Foundry, worked the ore trains of Bingham Canyon Mine.

Originally built with wood, it was rebuilt with steel in the early 1950s and upgraded with a diesel generator, radio, and headlights. Renumbered in 1964 and later painted in bicentennial colors, #425 is a rugged piece of mining railroad history.

Throwback Thursday

Usher Hat, also known as a “Red Cap.”

Worn by Union Pacific porters, these red caps helped passengers carry luggage and keep travel running smoothly. In Ogden, these jobs were especially important within African American communities, fostering strong connections and organizations such as the historic Porters & Waiters Club.
