We have new paintings from Ocracoke artist Barbara Adams!

Barb stopped in yesterday to drop off some new works to add to her collection here at the shop. Those familiar with Barb know she loves the wildlife here on the island and has spent many hours volunteering with the ponies and turtle nesting. It’s no surprise that her artwork often reflects all of her favorite local creatures.

Ocracoke Wild is a mixed media painting featuring the Ocracoke Lighthouse, ponies, pelicans, and even a few figs. Along with the larger painting, she dropped off 7 smaller wood panels featuring various local creatures. She is currently finishing up a few more paintings and will drop them off as soon as they’re completed.

Come in and see her full collection!

We have new original gyotaku fish by Strategic Angler!

Each piece is the size of the actual fish caught, printed, and hand painted by Merv.

Gyotaku is a Japanese form of printing established by fishermen to document their catches prior to photography. Traditionally done in black and white, Merv takes it a step further by hand painting each fish to look like the actual fish that was caught. Each original comes in a hand-built frame ready to hang on the wall.

We also have a full collection of Gyotaku giclee prints of various species of fish in different sizes.

If you have the chance to take one of Mary Bassell's pastel painting classes, I highly recommend doing so. This past week I took the opportunity to take a class with her and it was a wonderful experience!

As an artist myself, I personally have never been able to master soft pastels. They usually end up all over my arms vs the paper. Mary makes it so easy to learn how to use the pastel sticks and the various techniques of layering colors to reach the finished product. She offers baskets full of various photos of Ocracoke Island – marshes, beach, boats, clouds, flowers, lighthouse, and more. Once you choose your photo, she will help you sketch it out and will walk you step by step through the underpainting process to the finished piece. Even those who don’t consider themselves artistic will walk away with a beautiful piece.

Contact Mary directly for availability and questions about her classes – call/text 252.573.9195. Classes are offered in the mornings with limited space (typically one to three people). All supplies included! Class duration is about 2 hours.

Karen Crenshaw has sent over new paintings!

Her last delivery sold out so quickly that we needed a restock. Karen was able to send us 6 new paintings, and we were lucky enough to snag her painting “Behind the Dunes” that was just showcased at the national event – American impressionist Society 10th Annual Small Works Showcase!

Karen will be here in October to join a group of plein air artists for a week of painting all things Ocracoke. We can’t wait to see what she paints while she is here.

Hatteras Island photographer Daniel Pullen stopped by yesterday with a restock on his prints and copies of his new photo books.

Over the winter Daniel published two new photo “zine” books featuring his photography of two of Hatteras Islands favorite destinations – Cape Point in Buxton and the Frisco Pier. Each photo book features photos taken by Daniel over the last 15 years or so. In addition to these books, we have a restock on his first photo zine, “Homesick” featuring an arrayment of photos depicting the beauty of Hatteras Island.

Michael Hopko and crew never cease to amaze me with their glass work!

The newest batch of webbed octopuses are no exception. This round we ordered all 5 colors available in this style. They are absolutely stunning in person!

Each one is hand blown and features dichro (glittery) glass for an extra fun sparkle and webbing between each te****le. Please keep in mind that colors, size and te****le orientation will vary as each one is individually hand blown.

The webbed octos are selling quickly. If you see a color you like, grab it before it’s gone.

As always, shipping is available on all of Michael’s glass works.

Well 5 glass octos swam in this morning and only 2 remain!

These guys are swimming out the door just as quickly as they arrive. I currently have two small sitting octos in Opaline Speckled and Violet Green. These guys will not last long, so catch yours before it’s gone.

But do not fret if you out on these. 5 webbed octos are headed this way next week!

As always, shipping is available.
