SEA/CHANGE

Opening Saturday August 8th 6-9pm
Performances at 7pm

An exhibition restlessly moored by themes of migration and navigation through transience, loss, and reimagination

Curated by Glenna Cole Allee

With work by
Pete Belkin with Lauren Hartman
Sharon Beals
Kimberley Campisano
Patricia Diart
Guillermo Galindo
Stacey Goodman
Chloé Griffin
Diana Lara with Mihyun Lee
Emmanuelle Namont
Michael Paulus
Rhonda Weppler
And in the Annex, Glenna Cole Allee

Opening performances:
A dance piece by Diana Lara with Mihyun Lee will address how memories of migration can be stored within the human body, and Stacey Goodman's multi-media performance will explore the nature and scope of avian vision.

In the Dream Farm Commons gallery, we will show Guillermo Galindo's star-guided Tortoise, lightboxes from Pete Belkin and Laura Hartman's Dream Resort, a chronicle of slowly sinking imaginary paradises, Sharon Beal's Murmur photographs, Emmanuelle Namont's meditative Mer/Mère photo-assemblage, Kimberley Campisano's cyanotype and giclee photography, and Chloe Griffin's sea-journals, drawings, and ceramic chain sculpture.
There will be a continuous showing of Patricia Diart's animation SLAG, and Chloe Griffin's circling Albatross, in the Cinecloset within the main gallery.
In the upstairs Microcinema we will continuously screen a sequence that includes Pete Belkin and Lauren Hartman's Dream Resorts, Michael Paulus' Vertical Migration, Rhonda Weppler's Giro, and Stacey Goodman's video trio, This Tree.
In the Dream Farm Commons Annex, developing over the six weeks, will be the installation-in-progress Missing Meridian/Pacific Rim of Fire by Glenna Cole Allee.
Visitors are encouraged to visit each three-week phase of Sea/Change, as the show will change halfway, new works replacing some of those first displayed. It will be possible, unless remembering to look twice, to miss a guiding constellation, or a meteor on its path.

Genius Loci - Opening August 1st 4-7pm

Margo Majewska

During July, artist Margo Majewska has been in residence in the main gallery space. The residency culminates in a site-specific multimedia installation exploring the spirit of place through light, materiality, ecology, and memory.

Inspired by the remarkable regeneration of Big Basin Redwoods State Park after the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire, the installation reflects on cycles of loss, resilience, and renewal.

Drawing from the forest’s ability to recover and transform, the work considers the landscape as a living archive that holds memory, time, and our evolving relationship with the natural world. Light serves as both material and metaphor, revealing shifting boundaries between interior and exterior, presence and absence, permanence and change.

Through light, shadow, and materiality, Genius Loci invites visitors into a contemplative environment that encourages close observation and quiet reflection. The installation offers space to consider how landscapes shape our sense of memory, belonging, resilience, and connection to the living world.

Rather than following a fixed plan, the residency has remained open to experimentation and discovery. The final installation has emerged through close observation of the site, research, and conversation, allowing the place itself to help shape the work.

Kico Le Strange Besties Since Birth
Transcending Time

Opening TODAY May 9, 6-8 pm

May 6-12,
Dream Farm Commons 349 15th st
Oakland CA 94612

An installation of drawings, photo compilations, tapestries and altars
by Kico Le Strange, aka Marco Garcia.

Over the last months and years, Kico has been collecting the baby photos of his loved ones and placing them next to baby photos of his own sweet self. Mixed together, they are “Usies”. It’s of no matter when Le Strange met them, they were destined to become friends, lovers, soulmates and to travel through eternity together. Blending past, present and future, the”Usies” create new narratives for this moment; time and relationships are not linear and the moment is unfolding. In this body of work, Le Strange challenges ideas of temporality, retelling timelines and cherishing the beauty and complexity of relationships.

The Whole Earth is Our Hospital —
this is the waiting room

OPENING  SUNDAY MARCH 8,12 noon (sharp !) to 2PM
a lecture performance involving flat whites ( and yes you can drink them and
Cassie Thorton of The Feminist Economics Department (The FED), with friends, has created a participatory installation about waiting, care, and collective behavioral change during a time of planetary instability and transformation. She knows a lot about The Flat White Dimension (where we drink coffee and talk about the apocalypse while pretending to enjoy normativity and dying of its anxiety) and also about the demons coming out of the ground. It is time to change, even if we don’t know how. It is time to collectivize, organize, and stabilize in new ways. Come to the waiting room. It's an art installation in Oakland, but it is also real. It is a place to wait collectively, because losing our minds is part of the collapse. It is a place you can go when you know you need to change but don't know how.

You  can also visit The Workshop of Care and Repair, three doors down in the Annex of DFC, a listening and making site for collective and singular bodies and souls, offering brief sessions that begin with the premise that our needs are more common than we think. Since when care under capitalism = neglect, many parts need attention.Ann Schnake is an artist, and nurse and the maker and holder of this room; for many years, she worked in a county clinic and offered conventional medical treatment. Now she works with more ethereal tools, making new body parts, talking with people and enacting care, repair, attention and intention. How does listening to our most tender innards prepare us for the world? Come to the workshop for small rituals and making and repairing parts. Both works will continue together through April 8 on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit www.dreamfarmcommons orwaitoftheplanets.com for more information or to make an appointment at the Waiting Room.

So many people contributed to making an altar to our beautiful friend, sister, mentor, amazing artist and maker of beauty, Tosha Stimage. People will be tending the altar and we will keep it live. For how long? We do not know but so much to drink in of Tosha's energy in the world.
Rest in Peace

The Whole Earth is our Hospital- this is the the waiting room
+ Workshop for Care & Repair
Opening on March 8! 12 noon sharp!
Cassie Thornton, Ann Schnake and friends at Dream Farm Commons
349 15th St at Webster Oakland thru April 4
At noon (sharp!) on March 8, you are invited to a ritual led by Cassie. She'll give a barefoot inter-dimensional weather report about the two dimensions currently operating at once. Have your last sanctioned (artisanal) Flat White produced in a 3rd wave performance by a real coffee ritualist, Micah Hammac, as we absorb and process the end of the luxury of the caste system that keep us comfortable at the cost of everything else.

And veerrrry important: you will have a different  experience, by coming to the Waiting Room during our 1-3 PM sessions every Friday and Saturday. This is small group experience that will change you! Schedule your appointment, make a proposal for the waiting room or read more about the project at the waiting room website
https://waitoftheplanets.com/

You'll also get to visit The Workshop of Care & Repair! Three doors down from the waiting room, artist and nurse Ann Schnake offers brief sessions for collective and singular bodies and souls, beginning with the question: "when care under capitalism = neglect, what do you need today and what shall we make?”
Listen to most tender innards and make new parts in preparation for the world

In January 2026, Dream Farm Commons will enter a new era of shared leadership, co-led by a dynamic group of artists and thinkers, sharing curation, artistic production and programming.

Alongside Ann Schnake, Dream Farm Commons will now be held by Charlotte Law, Ebti, Glenna Cole Allee, Jeremy Kirshbaum, Judit Navratil and Meghana Bisineer.

We are collectively grateful to Ann Schnake for holding the space for the last 8 years as it expanded and contracted like an accordion, for staying with the trouble and for inviting in a new constellation for future visioning.  In this new iteration DFC retains its core mission to provide a vital space in the arts ecology of the East Bay for artistic experimentation, social engagement, performance, gathering and discourse for our neighborhood and wider community.
