Virginia War Museum and Newport News Parks and Recreation present a very special photography exhibit commemorating 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. "25 Years in Focus" by Vernon L Carter will open Friday, September 11 and run through Saturday, October 31. Guests will also have the opportunity to share their memories, experiences and thoughts of that unforgettable day as part of a unique community memory archival project.

A bold experiment began when representatives of the 13 colonies made a promise that still resonates.

They “mutually pledged to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor” in order to bring about a new nation and a future they could only imagine.

As we reflect on this milestone, may we remember the power of standing together for something greater than ourselves.

Here’s to 250 years of resilience, vision, and the ongoing work of shaping a more perfect union.

Today, as we wake up to a quiet morning with our families, we pause to honor the truly brave men and women who gave everything for our country. Their love for this nation lives on in the peaceful, heartfelt moments we get to share with the people we love.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to reflect together, please join us this morning at 11:00 AM for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony sponsored by American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25.

While the Shipyard Tour for Saturday, May 9th, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, there is still so much to explore! Join us for a day dedicated to local history and the VA250 celebration right here in Newport News.

Make it a historic Saturday with a visit to the Virginia War Museum, The Newsome House Museum and Cultural Center, Historic Endview, or Lee Hall Mansion. Plus, don't miss the National Train Day festivities at Lee Hall Depot from 10 AM to 3 PM! It’s a perfect family day featuring live music by the Runaway String Band, puppet shows, crafts, a bounce house, and more.
