Artist Spotlight: Kara Beth Rasure

Next up in our ๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ artist spotlight series, we are thrilled to feature the work of Kara Beth Rasure ().

In her work, Rasure explores where the human and the mechanical overlap. She creates speculative devices that blend anatomy with utility, reimagining traditional portraiture through the lens of mass production and digital identity. By shaping discarded Amazon boxes into dimensional faces and pairing them with plant-derived bioplastic armatures, Rasure directly contrasts capitalist systems with sustainable futures. Her sculptures point to an increasingly complicated overlap between technology, commodity, and identity.

๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ is on view at KUNSTRAUM through June 21, 2026.

To learn more about Karaโ€™s practice or to request a checklist of available works, please email [email protected].

Funny Weather is curated by Imogen Aukland () and also features works by Mimi O Chun (), Jo Cosme (.cosme), and Yixuan Wu ().

Artist Spotlight: Yixuan Wu

We are excited to highlight the work of Yixuan Wu (), which can now be seen at KUNSTRAUM in

In her work, form is placed under pressure. Wu creates delicate blown glass orbs which seem to be in movement, swelling to the point of near burst. Her sculptures rework and combine found objects with glasswork to create points of compression where they meet. By placing cushioning and support in a precarious balance, Wu explores a tricky relationship where forms are simultaneously held, cradled, and put under pressure. Within ๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, she navigates these modes of instability and flux, finding form and gestures of protection within them.

Artist Spotlight: Mimi O Chun

We are thrilled to feature the work of Mimi O Chun (), now on view in our group exhibition

Mimi O Chunโ€™s meticulously hand-sewn, embroidered soft sculptures recreate objects of collective cultural relevance in our post-digital, late-capitalist era. Chunโ€™s hybrid avian drone, ๐˜œ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜“๐˜บ๐˜ง๐˜ต ๐˜Ÿ๐˜š, conflates biological and mechanical life, referencing forms of modern surveillance, communication, and mobility. Chun uses humor as a disarming underbelly, forcing an uneasy coexistence between violence and softness.

โœจNEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT โœจ KUNSTRAUM is happy to welcome new member Ruimin Liang to our community! Ruimin is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist operating at the intersection of physical computing, performance, and found-object assemblage. Studying Art and Technology at Pratt Institute, she positions her body as a sensory conduit, absorbing the subconscious friction of society and digesting it into two extreme expressions: absurd humor and subversive provocation.

By scavenging discarded electronics and urban detritus, Ruimin reanimates obsolescence through physical computing, turning static debris into interactive co-performers. Humor acts as her tool for redemption and collective resonance, while her confrontational works rebel against structured power, materialism, and the male gaze. Whether orchestrating a silent transfer of power in a live performance, or programming a salvaged machine to perform an endless ritual of submission, she manipulates the illusion of control.

Ruimin has shown her work in multiple group exhibitions at the Pratt Digital Gallery and contributes to the community as a regular exhibitor at Maker Faire.

Artist Spotlight: Kara Beth Rasure

Combining modes of digital and physical fabrication, Kara Beth Rasure () creates hybrid sculptures that intersect anatomy with utility. These works reimagine the traditional portrait, considering how the self is shaped and presented in a digital era. Through the use of 3D-printed bioplastics and recycled cardboard shipping boxes, Rasure underscores a tension between current capitalist systems and the possibility of sustainable futures.

Kara Beth Rasureโ€™s work will be on view at KUNSTRAUM in ๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, opening on Sunday, May 17th from 4:00-6:00. Open through June 21st. Also featured in the show is work from:

KUNSTRAUM is proud to congratulate our founder and artist Nadja Verena Marcin on her participation in the 61st Venice Biennale, In Minor Keys, as part of CHIMERA, a large-scale multimedia installation by Denniston Hill presented at the Central Pavilion in the Giardini, Venice.
Contributing to this collective installation of 154 international artists, Nadja Verena Marcin presents The Cube (2026), a sculptural video work reflecting on mortality, memory, feminist critique, and collective responsibility.
CHIMERA explores fragility, interdependence, and shared social structures through interconnected artistic voices, bringing together diverse perspectives within one immersive installation.
We are delighted to see Nadja contributing to this yearโ€™s Venice Biennale through CHIMERA.
Congratulations to Nadja and all artists of Denniston Hill!
