KUNSTRAUM is happy to welcome new member, Soren (soren), to our community.

Soren is an oil painter living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her work uses traditional portrait painting techniques to explore the human figure and features. Building an image in layers, Soren captures mood, character, and relationships by paying close attention to the volumes and colors that give form to the human subject.

For this month’s Artist Salon, KUNSTRAUM Member Elizabeth Whitaker and Artist-in-Residence Maomao presented their work and shared more about their current and past projects.

Elizabeth showed a colorful new series of paintings alongside older portrait work, and Maomao created a presentation highlighting performance and interactive sculpture.

We spent time together discussing developing composition through repeated motifs, and subverting function through sculpture.

Our monthly Artist Salons bring the KUNSTRAUM community together in the gallery for presentations, conversation, and an opportunity to share in the work being made across our studios.

Two couples, four artists. Each artist presents two things in the exhibition: an artwork and an object from daily life.

The artists did not choose either of these things themselves. Their partners made the selections. Both are independent artists, as well as each other’s closest witnesses. They share a life together, and through that shared life, they have developed a particular understanding of one another. Giving the choice to a partner also means temporarily giving up control over how one is seen, and how one’s work is seen.

Serving as the first of two Fall 2026 shows for KUNSTRAUM’s annual Members Exhibition, 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮 highlights work from our community of local and international artists, featuring current Studio Members alongside active and recent Artists-in-Residence.

We are accepting applications for our upcoming Artist-in-Residence (AIR) cycles on a rolling basis. The program offers three-month residencies for local, national, and international artists, organized on a quarterly cycle. Included in the residency is 24/7 access to a dedicated studio space, monthly salons, visiting critics, curatorial mentoring, and participation in the annual Members’ Show.

KUNSTRAUM is happy to welcome new member, Emre Ozdemir, to our community.

Emre Ozdemir is a Brooklyn-based artist, designer, and educator working across digital media, spatial design, and emerging technologies. His practice investigates how images are produced, mediated, and transformed through computational systems.

Working with photographs collected from everyday environments, he uses algorithmic processes and filters to fragment, reorganize, and reconstruct visual information. His work explores the space between photographic observation and machine interpretation, treating computational mediation as a mode of seeing and questioning how digital technologies reshape our perception of the world.

Yesterday we welcomed Data Chigholashvili Data Chigholashvili, Curator at Residency Unlimited Residency Unlimited (RU), for studio visits at KUNSTRAUM with our residents. Artists Malu Laet m̫̙͚a̡̟͓l̻͔͚u̼͍̙⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡, Marcos Mion Marcos Mion - 366 Green Doors, Maria Luz MARIA LUZ, and Julia Belmore julia belmore each met with Data in their studios for one-on-one sessions.

KUNSTRAUM is happy to welcome our new Artist-in-Residence, Maomao, to our community.

Maomao is an artist working across installation, performance, image-making, and participatory projects.

Drawing from East Asian subcultures, consumer culture, digital media, and popular cultural forms, she works with images, objects, narratives, and systems of participation. Her projects often involve the translation and reconfiguration of familiar cultural materials, creating situations that feel simultaneously recognizable and strange.

Positioned between contemporary art and popular culture, her practice explores the shifting relationships between fiction, consumption, collective imagination, and everyday life.

This week, we had the pleasure of coming together to hear presentations from KUNSTRAUM artists Ruimin Liang Ruimin_Liang and Maria Luz MARIA LUZ.

Each month at our Artist Salon, two artists from our community share their work in our gallery space, followed by questions and conversation. These Salons are always a highlight of our programming. Thank you to Ruimin and Maria for their wonderful presentations, and to all who joined!
