Final week of LoVid’s ☀️Hotter than the Sun☀️ Don’t miss seeing the 2003 videos in the LoVid Links room.

“LoVid’s 2003 videos: Quilt, Susquehanna, Cyclops, Decay Hatching, Breaking and Entering the Lost Timeframe were produced at the Experimental Television Center (ETC) in Owego, New York, and explores time through the interaction of discrete sound and video signals.

Using analogue electrical current as both visual and sonic material, the work creates a shifting electronic landscape where color vibrations and rhythmic interruptions move between motion and stillness. Challenging the limits of
perception, the piecea reflects LoVid’s ongoing investigation into the body’s relationship to technological systems, signal-based media, the sensory thresholds exploited by video itself, and their parallel to the natural world. Recent scholarship on the work was featured in Leonardo (MIT Press).”

We are thrilled to announce LoVid’s video ‘Infinitely Unresolved’ (2019) is now in the permanent collection of the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College.

Infinitely Unresolved, 2019
6:43 min, color, sound, HD video

Infinitely Unresolved is a collaboration with performance artist and dancer Arien Wilkerson (TNMOT AZTRO). LoVid and Wilkerson exchanged short dance sequences and DMs that were edited into a dance on desktop collage composition. The video was shot entirely using Facebook and Instagram Live. Selfie reflections, dirty screens, social media emotions, gender, and race representation, are all scrambled by pushing the live “analog video” effects and filters of these social media interfaces to a breaking point.

Infinitely Unresolved was previously exhibited in The Menil Collection, Anthology Film Archives, Off the Wall Atlanta.

Wrapping up an amazing week with 1-54 in New York. Thank you to the stellar team for making it happen 🫶

Huge thank you to the collectors and curators, so many inspiring conversations on the histories and future of the diaspora. And of course, this special trio of artists: that I’m fortunate to work with. Keep a keen eye on them ⚡️

“Holding Court: Tire Machèt and the Sea highlights two urgent realities within frame. My aim for this piece was to bring attention to the environmental shifts and the lost
Haitian Martial art called tire machèt.

On the right highlights three women engaging in tire machèt, a Haitian martial art born out of the Haitian Revolution. Tire machèt has been kept alive in secret within one’s lakou, or communal yard. The left highlights the sea levels encroaching onto the court, insinuating a slow erasure that threatens not only land and infrastructure, but the cultural traditions held within them.

This piece asks viewers to bear witness to both the gathering and threat, honoring a community’s commitment to practice and preserve even in the midst of environmental shifts and changes.”

Complementing the exhibition, LoVid Links presents a living archive of references drawn from the duo’s long-standing engagement with artist-run culture. Composed of books, catalogs, zines, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, cassettes, and vinyl records, the library traces connections between LoVid’s practice and broader networks spanning experimental media, noise music, independent publishing, food culture, and neo-craft.

Materials are drawn both from the artists’ personal collection and from an extended community of collaborators and influences, including Cory Arcangel, Casey Reas, Lauren Lee McCarthy, Electronic Arts Intermix and Triple Canopy among others.
