A Common Thread That Binds Us … is the cycle of life.

Wooden shells hang suspended from the ceiling like cocoons. It is where life begins.

Thrilled to announce that Knowhere Art Gallery, alongside talented artists, will be making its debut at the prestigious 60th Venice Biennale as part of the European Cultural Centre’s 7th Edition-Personal Structures. Join us for the premiere of ‘A Common Thread That Binds Us,’ a relevant exhibition delving into the universal journey of humanity through contemporary art.

Created by women artists and curated with meticulous care the exhibition showcases a diverse array of artwork across various mediums.

Alison Croney Moses’s evocative wooden sculptural ‘Shells’ serve as a captivating centerpiece, suspended like cocoons, prompting contemplation on the origins of humanity and the transformative nature of life.

Maria-Lana Queen’s ‘Rites of Passage 7’, and Adana Tillman’s ‘Revel of Life’, offer profound insights into identity and cultural experiences, transcending boundaries to unveil the universal essence of human greatness.

Prepare to be mesmerized by D. Lammie-Hanson’s ‘Exhilaration’, a stunning reinterpretation of metalpoint capturing moments of joy and reflection with delicate 14Kt & 24Kt gold-wired strokes on deep indigo painted panels.

Mark your calendars and join us on 20 April 2024 opening day at Palazzo Bembo, in Venice, Italy. The 60th Venice Biennale will be on exhibit from 20 April 2024 - 24 November 2024.

“Vineyard Artist’s Work Chosen for Black History Month Stamp”

This year’s Black History Month stamp, honoring Judge Constance Baker Motley, is the work of an acclaimed Vineyard artist who divides his time between the Island and Atlanta. Known for his exuberantly reverent portraiture of Black women, men and children, Charly Palmer had no inkling the U.S. Postal Service was looking at his work until he got the call.

Bryan Collier a Coretta Scott King award winner and Caldecott Honor recipient as well as many other awards for his illustrations of children’s books.

Bryan helps to vividly shape stories with collage, color and depth of field. Look carefully and you might see eyes looking back at you of our ancestors who’s voices are at the foundation of these stories. This image of an original work from the book “All Because You Matter” by Tami Charles and Bryan Collier symbolizes the responsibility we have in caring for each other. Encouraging us to listen carefully to our ancestors who continue to share wisdom and guidance with us so we carry on with pride!

Art has always been my ultimate form of self-expression, a passion that has fueled me throughout my life. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, I spent my youth there before migrating to Pennsylvania in 2000. It was in the vibrant artistic environment of Philadelphia that I found inspiration in street art and historical murals. My art journey began during my time at Springfield High School, where I explored multiple mediums and discovered the joy of creating through various projects. After a brief hiatus, I rediscovered my love for art in 2008, particularly using oil-based medium, which reignited my creative energy.

Each body of my work draws inspiration from both history and everyday experiences, crafted to evoke subjective interpretations in the viewer. I firmly believe that art is universal and shaped by each individual's life journey. As an introspective figurative artist, I incorporate natural motifs and floral fabric patterns to express communication and determination in the figures' pursuit of a better life. Each stroke of paint exudes boldness, confidence, and strength, aiming to inspire those who encounter my art.

If you are on the island of Martha’s Vineyard stop by the Center of Knowhere to see Shanneil’s work in person !

Fibers of My Soul Exhibition - Artist Spotlight ...

Meet Adana Tillman!

Mekia and Baron, 2023
48in x 48in
Cotton, Thread, Beads
Appliqued found and hand dyed textiles with hand embroidery and beading

Adana Tillman, the dynamic textile artist exploring the captivating journey of identity through her striking figurative portraits. Unapologetically embracing the African Diaspora, Adana's works celebrate grace and self-expression in fashion and hair, breaking free from judgment. Her art captures the essence of self-discovery, with bold patterns and vibrant colors adorning each figure. Utilizing textiles sourced from her travels and her mother's extensive fabric library, Adana's hand-dyeing techniques add a unique touch to her creations. Notably, she received the prestigious 2019 Garden Fellowship, exhibiting during Miami Art Week. Recently, she completed an inspiring residency in Berlin, Germany. Adana's work has garnered national recognition, including acquisition by The Akron Main Library. Seamlessly blending traditional quilting with contemporary fabrics and techniques, her art presents a captivating fusion of old and new. Follow Adana on her captivating journey of artistic expression! 🌟🧵 ,
