Tours available tomorrow at 12:30 and 1:30. Walk ins welcome.

Join the New Providence Historical Society on a free tour of our Presbyterian Church graveyard. It is the final resting place of over 200 souls including 59 veterans of the Revolutionary War. On this tour you will learn about the history of the graveyard, cemetery folklore, and some local heroes.

To reserve your spot, send an email to [email protected]. We will meet in the church parking lot at 1307 Springfield Ave, NP. There are two tours during Union County's Four Centuries in a weekend event while the Society is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Be sure to visit the Salt Box museum this weekend during Union County's Four Centuries in a weekend event from 12-5 Saturday and Sunday. We will be celebrating the society's 60th anniversary with light refreshments and snacks, free tours, lots of interesting artifacts and stories. So if you have not been in a while, or have never stopped in before now is the time!! Come see what the little white house along the Salt Brook can tell you about the history of our community.

Join the New Providence Historical Society as our Guest Speaker Peter Coddington shares the remarkable legacy of the Coddington greenhouses! From the founding of the first greenhouse in 1895 to their peak in the 1950’s, these New Providence landmarks grew over 113,000 rose plants annually across 5 1/2 acres of glass. You will discover the story of the family business growing to include 10 greenhouses, 100,000 panes of glass, from Central avenue to the Murray Hill train station becoming the East coast’s 10th largest grower. We hope to see you on October 22nd at 7pm at the DeCorso Center to hear about this horticultural treasure that shaped our community’s history.

Peter Coddington, of Portsmouth, NH, the son of the late Lyman Badgley Coddington, III (1935 - 2016) will be our presenter of “History of the Coddington Family Greenhouse Business”

The N.P. Historical Society Mason Archive Room will NOT be open to the public on Saturday, 10/10, 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.
BUT, WILL BE OPEN ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, during the Union County FOUR CENTURIES IN A WEEKEND event, 12 noon - 5 p.m.

Join us for one of our many FREE celebrations during Union County's Four Centuries in a weekend October 17th & 18Th.
The New Providence Historical Society is celebrating our 𝟔𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 with free light refreshments at the Salt Box museum. The society was established in 1966 to preserve our local history and the museum. The Salt Box Museum, 1350 Springfield Ave, will be open for free tours Saturday & Sunday from 12-5pm.

Also open is our 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 at the rear of the library. Open Saturday 10/17 from 12-5pm

New Providence Book Festival Rescheduled - Sat. Oct. 3

Due to inclement weather, the New Providence Book Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, has been postponed to Saturday, October 3rd, 10 AM - 4 PM.
