⚾️ Root for the home team! The New Providence Historical Society and the America 250 New Providence committee are excited to announce our next partnership event of an old timey baseball game featuring the original “New Providence Athletic Associations Crescents” playing against the NP Reds! This free event is open to all and will be played at the high school’s Miller Field on Saturday 6/27. The Crescents team, will be playing under names of some of the original players. The team will be made up of volunteers from New Providence Volunteer Fire Department New Providence EMS and New Providence Police and New Providence Office of Emergency Management The society will be selling concessions, including cracker jacks, and Crescents merchandise. Bring a chair and bring a friend to watch America’s favorite past time together.

Our Society President Rick Anderson was today’s Grand Marshall! An honor well deserved. The society also honors all of those who gave their lives in service of our country especially this year we remember all of those who fought in the Revolutionary war.

Today’s society float was driven by trustee Jeff Grob and Maureen, and in the back was VP Maria DeLuca and corresponding secretary Christine Tallone and Tom the turkey. 🦃

As we get ready to celebrate Memorial Day and honor those who gave their lives in combat we would like to take a moment and recognize our society President Rick Anderson. Rick will be the Grand Marshall in tomorrow’s New Providence Memorial Day Parade.

Rick has been a New Providence resident for 48 years, residing in the same 100 yr. old home. Rick is a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during Vietnam War. He enlisted in the Army in 1968 for a 4 year commitment. He reached the rank of Specialist 5th Class, while serving with the Army Security Agency, both in northern Japan and Ft.Devens MA.

He is currently President of the New Providence Historical Society. Recording Secretary of the New Providence Garden Club. He has been an active parishioner at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for over 40 years. He has been an active member of the New Providence Amateur Radio Club for over 40 years. Rick was one of a number of New Providence residents who were awarded the Good Scout Award in 2026.

We are grateful for Rick’s dedication to the society and all that he does for others. Please give him a wave and a thank you when you see him in the parade.

Thank you to everyone that attended last week’s encore presentation of “The Gilded Age of Carl H Schultz” at the New Providence Memorial Library given by Society VP Maria DeLuca. If you missed the presentation and would like to see the map of Carl’s Murray Hill homes and land it is on display in the Salt Box Museum. The museum is open the first Sunday of each month.

Society's Maria DeLuca Receives Union Cnty. SHERO Award !

In celebration of Mother’s Day, the Union County Board of County Commissioners proudly unveiled the nominees for the prestigious Union County SHERO Award. This prestigious award was presented in honor of Women’s History, celebrating the remarkable achievements of women who made significant contributions to our community.

Maria was one of the approx. 50 women in the county to receive this award.

These nominees reflect the rich fabric of Union County, each bringing a unique perspective and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in our community. Their efforts serve as an inspiration to us all, embodying the spirit of Women’s History Month and the values we proudly uphold in Union County, New Jersey.
