📣 Join Schoenbrunn Village and several local Moravian churches in celebrating Ohio’s role in the founding of the United States of America!

This special Community & Homecoming Picnic is proudly sponsored by Cenovus Energy, The Worthington Companies Foundation, Marzetti, the America250-Ohio Commission, and Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

We invite everyone to bring their own lunches and enjoy a relaxing community picnic on the lower level directly across Delaware Drive, within walking distance of the village. While you picnic, take part in special America 250-Ohio programming highlighting the region’s rich history and the stories that helped shape our nation.

In addition to the picnic on the lower level, there will be special 250-themed programming taking place inside the village as part of the celebration. Guests can explore the historic grounds while enjoying family-friendly crafts, games, and activities for all ages—making it a perfect day to gather, learn, and celebrate together.

🍧 A few trucks will also be on site with delicious goodies available for purchase throughout the event!

🎉 This event is free during the scheduled time of 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Crafts and activities will be available while supplies last.

Did you know that Schoenbrunn Village is a stop on the Tuscarawas County Scavenger Hunt? This exciting adventure is a wonderful opportunity to explore the places and stories that have shaped our community and connect with the rich history of Tuscarawas County.
Scavenger Hunts can be picked up at the Tuscarawas County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the program runs from May 5 through September 7. Participants who complete the hunt will be entered for a chance to win prizes drawn from the winners!

Be sure to visit Schoenbrunn Village—home to Ohio’s first Christian settlement, church, and schoolhouse—and discover the stories that helped shape early Ohio. The scavenger hunt is a fun way for families, history enthusiasts, and visitors of all ages to get in touch with the history of our community.

America 250-Ohio, June Theme: Natural Resources

The Moravians who settled at Schoenbrunn relied heavily on the natural resources of the Ohio Country. Gardens, forests, rivers, and streams provided the food and materials needed to support daily life.

At Schoenbrunn Village, growing food and foraging for natural resources were essential parts of daily life. The village's residents carefully cultivated gardens while also gathering what nature provided, demonstrating a deep understanding of the land and the changing seasons. Their connection to the environment helped sustain one of Ohio's earliest multicultural communities and reminds us of the importance of stewardship and self-sufficiency today.

America 250-Ohio - May theme: Ohio creates: Arts, Culture, and Literature.

Long before public education was common, David Zeisberger and the Moravians believed that learning and education should be available to everyone. Through his Delaware-Indian and English Spelling Book, Zeisberger helped create opportunities for education and literacy for Native communities at a time when education was often considered a luxury.

Zeisberger’s efforts to translate language and develop educational tools helped preserve communication, encourage learning, and connect cultures across the Ohio Country. His work reminds us that education has the power to shape communities, preserve history, and open doors for future generations.

At Schoenbrunn Village, we continue to share these important stories and the lasting impact they had on early Ohio history.

We’re excited to announce that Schoenbrunn Village has officially been named a part of America-250 Ohio’s Transportation Trail! 🇺🇸

Schoenbrunn Village stands around some of the earliest pathways into the Ohio Country, including the Moravian Trail, the Great Trail, and the Muskingum Trail. These historic routes were traveled by many different people and were among the first to shape movement and connection across the region.👣

Today, Schoenbrunn Village continues to tell the story of life along these early trails—the hardships faced, the journeys taken, and the incredible plants and wildlife that were native to Ohio 250 years ago.🌲🦬

Come walk the paths of history with us and experience the story for yourself. 🌿✨

A big thank you to Advocates for Success,Amanda Fontana, and the United Way Organization for choosing us as a host site for this year’s Day of Caring!

We truly appreciate the volunteers who gave their time and energy to help clean up and prepare the village for the 2026 season. Your hard work made a noticeable difference and helped get everything ready to welcome visitors.
It was also a pleasure sharing a bit of history, as volunteers learned about Ohio’s first schoolhouse and church while helping preserve the site.

Music and singing are at the heart of Moravian life during the 18th century and still today. Hymns and instrumental music brought and still bring communities together in worship, celebration, and daily life. These songs offered comfort, strengthened faith, and helped preserve traditions across generations.

Moravians are known for their rich musical heritage, blending voices and instruments to create a powerful sense of community. At Schoenbrunn Village, mission members attended lessons where they sang hymns in the Native American Lenape language, reflecting both spiritual devotion and the blending of cultures within the community.

Today, this tradition reminds us of the important role music played in shaping community, culture, and connection in early Moravian settlements. 🎵🌟🎶😊

Long before modern roads, Ohio was connected by important routes like the Great Trail and the Moravian Trail. In the 18th century, travel happened by foot, horseback, and along rivers that served as vital corridors for trade and communication.

Schoenbrunn Village became a central meeting place along these routes, bringing together travelers, traders, American Indians, and Moravians—where cultures exchanged ideas, goods, and traditions on the early Ohio frontier.
