1862-Battle of Britton's Lane Tennessee.
1862-Battle of Chantilly Virginia. Union Major General Phillip Kearny [US] is shot and killed when he crosses Rebel lines while riding his horse. Gen Issac I. Stevens [US] is also killed.
1862-Confederates captured Lexington, Kentucky.
1862-Union General John Pope evacuated Centerville, Virginia.
1862-Astronomer Ormsby M. Mitchel [US] is ordered to command the Department of the South.
1863-Battle of Devil's Backbone (Backbone Mountain) Arkansas.
1864-Confederates begin the evacuation of Atlanta Georgia.
1864-Skirmish, Opequon Creek, Clarke/Frederick County Virginia.

Appomattox-Petersburg Fall Tour
“Sublime Courage”
September 19, 2026

The Appomattox-Petersburg fall tour explores the April 6, 1865, cavalry fight at Harper’s farm with
Pickett’s division; the fight near High Bridge earlier that day and the tussle between elements of Ord’s Army of the James and Longstreet’s veterans near Rice’s Depot. This tour will reveal new information about these under studied engagements.

We will begin at Harper's Farm Approximately 10 AM
Address: 6541 Sayler's Creek Rd, Rice, VA 23966
*Meet at the Visitor Center of Sailor's Creek Battlefield.

Rice's Depot Approximately 11 AM
Address: Pisgah Baptist Church - 202 Pisgah Church Rd, Rice, VA 23966

High Bridge Approximately 12 PM
Address: 1466 Camp Paradise Road, Rice, VA 23966
