Rescues don’t just happen, they take training, preparation, and practice. That’s exactly what’s happening here in this photo. The Coast Guard crew captured above is practicing Fast roping - a skill Coast Guard members train to master so they can quickly and safely deploy from a helicopter when necessary.

Rescue readiness isn’t just about practicing the rescue itself. Coast Guard crews also train to safely work together by air and sea.

These photos capture training off the coast of Mayport, Florida, on August 15, 2026, where the crew of USCGC James worked alongside HITRON air crews to practice landing and securing helicopters aboard the cutter.

Training like this helps Coast Guard crews build the skills and coordination needed to stay ready for operations at sea, including when emergencies arise.

The crew of 6022 is complete and waiting for final installation. 🚁🌊

Here’s your first look at the final two figures who will bring 6022’s search-and-rescue story to life inside the National Coast Guard Museum.

Suspended beneath the MH-60 Jayhawk, the rescue swimmer and survivor will capture one of the most recognizable moments in a Coast Guard rescue—the hoist. The finished display will put visitors right in the middle of the action and, more importantly, introduce them to the people behind the mission.

But there’s more to this photo than meets the eye. 👀

Our “survivor” is hiding a pretty great Coast Guard Easter egg. Think you know what it is? Drop your guess in the comments. ⬇️

Last week, we showed you the rescues. Now, it’s time to show you the training that makes them possible!

This week, we’re highlighting different Coast Guard rescue training exercises as part of our series.

Today’s training takes us off the coast of Long Beach, California, where Coast Guard crews recently conducted a search and rescue exercise using rescue mannequins. Training exercises like these give crews the opportunity to practice the skills and techniques needed to respond when someone is in distress.

We’ve been posting all about Coast Guard rescues, but what about the training it takes to make those rescues possible?

As we wrap up this week’s series, we wanted to highlight the preparation that helps Coast Guard members stay ready to respond when lives are on the line.

This particular training shows U.S. Coast Guard reservists practicing the removal of a dummy from the roof of a flooded house, preparing for situations they may face during real-world emergencies.

When natural disasters strike, the Coast Guard is ready to respond. Training like this helps make that readiness possible.

Another incredible Coast Guard rescue! Just last week, a Coast Guard Air Station San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew helped bring a 53-year-old man to safety near Seal Beach Pier, California.

The rescue followed a multiagency search that lasted more than 12 hours. Once located, the man was flown to Long Beach Airport, where emergency medical personnel were waiting to provide care.

Throughout this week, we’ve been sharing Coast Guard rescue stories that demonstrate what it means to be Semper Paratus - Always Ready.

Want to learn even more about the Coast Guard’s lifesaving missions? Beginning August 4, 2027, the National Coast Guard Museum will bring Coast Guard history to life through stories, artifacts, exhibits and even a real Jayhawk helicopter suspended from the ceiling!

We have quite the special post for National Dog Day! 🐶💙

This week, we’ve been highlighting different Coast Guard rescues as part of our series. And on National Dog Day, what better rescue to highlight than one involving a four-legged furry friend!

This rescue took place in 2024 off the coast of Washington after a commercial fishing vessel sank. A Coast Guard crew located the survivor and his dog and safely transported them to Port Angeles.
