Hi friends! So this post isn't going to have any finished pictures of beautiful art, but rather demonstrate the absolute CHALLENGES you guys bring to me!

This poor old canvas was in rough shape and kind of shoddily done up in a too-thin floater frame by one of the big box stores. It was....different. But the main issue I ran into was the significant bow in one of the stretcher bars the canvas was on--and you can see this in the first two pictures with the cross bar I cut to correct at least most of the bowing. But this sucker gave me trouble. So what's a framer to do?

Take it down to New Bern's finest maker space, Shop Class , of course! With the extra space and multitude of clamp options, we braced one side, clamped up the bowed side to the table, and cranked down until the cross bar could be neatly glued in to hold everything back in place. And...success! The stretcher bars aren't perfectly straight--they never will be again. That's kind of wood for ya. But it was enough to sit even in its new floater frame!

I'll try taking on anything, even if I need some assistance. If it can't be done, I'll tell you...but might as well try!

Rock on New Bern! This was a cool project with VIP Bon Jovi tickets, and at first I just could. not. find the right frame for it. So what's a framer to do? Order more corner samples. A shout out to Fotiou Frames for this awesome moulding, it was the perfect red and the perfect style! It comes in other colors too!

And speaking of rocking on and shouting out, I had a pretty awesome time volunteering last night at this years last Footloose on the Neuse concert--you guys really showed up and out for not only the band, but the b**r tent, too. Going into next year, just remember that all the b**r sales from the Craven Arts Council / Bank of the Arts b**r tent goes to them--support our local arts council and support the arts! Art was, is, and will always be incredibly important to our cultures, societies, livelihoods and humanity. I really had a blast and the music was great!

IT'S ART WALK! I'll be here--5pm-8pm, so stop by. Give Craven St. some love.

This beast of a project took almost all day to sew on! First was the challenge of a 32" x 40" silk matboard (which doesn't come oversized) turning into a 38" x 38" piece. Pythagorean theorem to the rescue! So I did end up with visible diagonal lines coming from the center of the piece, but it does give it a nice shine/depth effect and I am so happy with how it turned out. Had to lightly hammer the sewing needle in each time to get it through the matboard without ruining my fingers. But what a beautiful piece!

I could have glued it or taped it on but that's a messy copout. We don't do that here with delicate pieces unless you request it. So if you're wondering why it takes me so long sometimes--it's because I'll take on almost any challenge!

This beautiful piece was done by one of my local on-the-wall artists, Louis Bivens. Photos don't do justice--this navy frame really gives a depth with the color to pop the painting out even more boldly than before. Everyone stay dry today and have a great weekend!

Do kids these days still like unboxing videos? Well, regardless, here's one. This is one big box of discontinued moulding! So the idea--we're going to get EVEN MORE custom with this beautiful wood. This stuff is stainable, paintable....really anything. I'll do up some stained samples, but really, this could be any color you want and it'll give you something truly one-of-a-kind.

I'll have some of this stuff out during next Art Walk. So make sure to COME TO CRAVEN STREET! WE'RE HERE! Middle St. ain't the only street with good art and fun stuff! The more you guys show up, the more we can have going on, on our oft-forgotten block--so come on by!

And yes, I'll be here; I had a little summer break. Maybe a little overwhelmed with all the framing you awesome folks have been bringing my way, but I'm getting my system worked out! I'm looking at in the nearish future for maybe some expanded hours to keep my momentum going; we'll see. Still working out some little kinks after 3.5 years of owning the place but I do really love it and I appreciate everyone's patience!

Hi friends--I will be closed Sept. 4-8 for vacation with no access to my shop phone, emails...you all know the standard cubicle out-of-office message, so let's go with that! So I won't be framing, but if anyone happens to walk by and courtesy-waters my plants out front, you know, I wouldn't mind.

I will also happily frame un-fixed chalk pastel pictures. Here you can see me adding wire upside-down so the chalk pastel doesn't absolutely obliterate the clarity of the glass on it. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but whatever you need for framing I always try my best to make it happen!

This isn't the best picture because these horses are BIG! This poor oversized canvas came very crookedly stretched (white canvas edges showing on the front as if they belonged there)--so I re-stretched it on a new set of stretcher bars, only to find out the width of the bottom was about TWO INCHES wider than the top--no wonder! Had to do a little touchup on the paint, as sitting how it did for a while being folded over in the wrong spots caused a little bit of paint flaking that needed to be covered. Luckily, mostly on the black parts at the top. I don't usually do that unless it's glaringly blatant and easily touched up, or if it was requested within reason.

The cuddling dogs in the back are my favorite! Or maybe the gossipy monkeys up top. I'm not sure.

Hi friends! We're open rain or shine. Hopefully we'll get a little bit more "shine" today, but in the meantime, check out this absolutely gorgeous photo from prolific Bulgarian artist Jacko Vassilev! It's a stunning piece and we found a frame that grabs the movement, style, and color (grays are still colors!) to highlight the perfect shot of a very fun billboard still on the truck. Artists in the National Juried Show coming up at Craven Arts Council / Bank of the Arts --this is LAST CALL for any framing/matting/glass that you might need from me! If you need anything done, bring it to me today or I won't have time to get you fixed up! This will be an awesome show and I encourage everyone to go check it out next month.

And as for this picture--whiskey and OJ! What a prescription! Shout out to The Old Pinnix for letting me frame up this one. If you haven't been over there yet, their food and cocktails are delicious, especially if you love toast!
