This article was a nice surprise. We love working with Voc Tech! Thank you Our Sister'S School for introducing us to Daishaly, our new Design Lab coordinator or this co-op partnership with Voc may not have happened! Cheers to the future leaders of New Bedford!

GNBVT leaders met with DATMA to expand a partnership that already puts vocational students to work on New Bedford public art—including a student’s 3D-printed and laser-cut clay molds that help people with limited hand mobility create, plus earlier metal-fabrication work on Bordalo II’s Plastic Rooster and the “Bug Out” sculptures.

Explore the installation at the New Bedford Buttonwood Park. Upon your visit, you’ll discover giant, bright metal bugs climbing lamp posts and burrowing in the grass.

Each creature was collectively created by over 40 Metal/Fab students at GNBVT Metal Fab & Joining with much support from the faculty including Steve Flowers and artistic direction from NB sculptor, Chuck Hauck. We look forward to the 2027 phase 2 bugs to be added to the collection.
