While in Faial, DATMA coordinated fun, easy creative icebreaker conversations after a community dinner. The next day was followed by 5 minute artist talks to help bring focus and foster connection. The exercises allowed for participants to understand what each artist is striving to achieve while in the program and how we can all be resources for one another.

The next big moment for the artists will be to select artworks for the exhibition taking place here on the island and then in a few months, New Bedford. The HP Director, Lara Harrington, meets with artist later today to review exhibition selections.

Thank you for the snapshots from the artists presentations night while was at the helm of the projector. And endless thanks to our hosts at Quinta da Meia Eira for feeding us such delicious meals every day.

Landed in Lisbon today to see what sort of projects DATMA can possibly build in New Bedford with artists from mainland Portugal. While awaiting the creative conversations, a visit to the MAAT was in order and to no surprise, the exhibitions were extraordinarily.

Artists in order of carousal:
Pedro Cabrita Reis (sculpture)
Pedro Casqueiro (painting)
Cerith Wyn Evans (neon)
Isabelle Ferreira (mixed media)

We’re proud of the public art season accomplished with our community and artists like Liz Collins (NYC) and Mona Ghandi (WA). We collaborated more than humanly possible which made the outcomes feel even more important and rewarding.

It was a good year to come together and we will be forever thankful to over 100 people who created a panel for the exhibition especially our fellow organizations and schools- you guys rock;

And BIG THANKS to the creator of this visual overview of our 2025 projects, .de.aguiar New Bedford’s Visual Storyteller. 🎥
