Location: Napa Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Oak Room

A photographer and educator, Becky Jaffe exhibits her photography in over forty museums and galleries nationwide, curates multimedia exhibits in community art centers and greenhouses, teaches Art of Seeing courses for fine art photographers, and judges photography competitions for over a dozen Northern California camera clubs. Her photographs have been published in LensWork, SHOTS Magazine, Der Greif, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Bay Nature Magazine. She was the 2019 Artist-in-Residence at the University of California at Berkeley Botanical Garden, where she teaches photography workshops that cross-pollinate the arts and sciences, using an artistic lens to study ethnobotany, ecology, and evolutionary biology. She teaches photography internationally as a lecturer for Cal Discoveries Travel in countries such as Japan, Australia, Panama, and Egypt. She uses her photography practice as a way to cultivate and share a sense of raw wonder.

Photographer Irena Miles to present The Art of Travel Photography at the Napa Valley Photographic Society July Meeting

Monday, July 27, 2025 at 7PM
Location: Napa Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Oak Room

Please join fellow photography enthusiasts for Irena Miles’ presentation on travel photography.
Whether it’s around the corner or around the world, travel photography is all around you. It’s about more than just documenting a destination; it’s about capturing the heartbeat, the flavor, and the story of a place.
Irena will explore how to train your eye to identify compositional strengths and capture beautiful stories on your travels—whether you are shooting with a professional camera or the phone in your pocket.
Over 15+ years behind the lens, Irena’s photography travels have taken her both solo and in group settings across the globe. She has had the privilege of capturing the light, people, and landscapes of Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Turkey, Portugal, Ukraine, Mongolia, Morocco, Italy, the Eastern Sierras, and the American Southwest.
Currently, she shoots with Sony mirrorless cameras and uses Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and other plug-ins to bring my creative vision for each image to life. Lately, my personal work has focused on two fascinating concepts:
Color Grading: How adjusting the color palette can completely set the emotional tone and feeling of an image.
Visual Weight: Understanding the difference between what we think is the subject of a photo and where the colors and lighting are actually pointing the viewer's eye.
Whether you are looking to get more out of your dedicated camera or want to learn how to make your mobile photos truly sing, this presentation is designed to inspire you for your next adventure.

Photographer Joe Sinclair to speak about thinking outside the frame at the Napa Valley Photographic Society April Meeting

Monday, April 27, 2025 at 7PM
Location: Napa Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Oak Room

Please join us to hear Joe Sinclair speak about metal prints, which Joe declares are not just another means of printing photos. They are a different and separate display medium. Frames are the typical treatment for paper prints, but they don’t have to be the treatment for metal prints. The treatments for metal prints can be much different.
Metal print treatments can take advantage of the unique properties of the medium. And the medium is only about ten years old. Thus, we stand at the beginning. But we’re cramming metal prints into old ideas of treatment while ignoring the opportunity to come up with new means of artistic treatment that better suit the new medium.
Joe Sinclair (sometime artistic AKA, José Santa Clara) has experimented (dabbled) a bit with new treatments, and through his experience he has learned a few techniques that anyone can use to create new treatments for permanent display of their metal prints for sale or private use.
To get the most out of this presentation, you will need to bring your aesthetic instincts and imagination with you to the meeting.
Sinclair is an amateur photographer of 75 years and editor of the Napa Valley Photographic Society Journal.
