There's something new next to the Spindrift! 👀🎣

The Morro Bay Maritime Museum has added a new learning facility to complement the historic Monterey Double Ender "Spindrift" and show the work and preparation Morro Bay's commercial fishermen took on before heading miles out onto the Pacific Ocean.

A look through the windows and open door answers questions like "What do fishermen do in between fishing trips?" Built by a museum member and fisherman, the shack's work and storage space might seem cluttered, but everything has a purpose. Fishermen have hobbies too, and some collect old outboard motors and more! The key lesson: know what everything is and keep needed gear handy. 🪝

The heavy work, like crafting and repairing nets, will likely happen outside. Commercial fishermen and their families made Morro Bay the Central Coast's gateway to the Pacific. You'll enjoy Morro Bay (and a great seafood meal) even more when you check it out in person! 🐟

A big salute to the Warrant Officer Candidates and National Guard Warrant Officer personnel who volunteered at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum on September 18! 🫡⚓

WOC Mathew Schoofs-Amos, WOC Kandie Hill, WOC Andrew Vega, and WOC German Chavez rolled up to the museum and minutes later went to work on our outdoor exhibits, with other Warrant Officer personnel joining in.

We've had many volunteers over the years, but none attacked the work as willingly and joyfully as this crew. Our Board of Directors, volunteers, and visitors are so grateful, and we wish the very best to all the WO candidates and Warrant Officers we met! 🇺🇸🌊

What an honor to host the SLO Mayors Lunch at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum! ⚓

We loved welcoming local leaders to the waterfront and sharing the vessels, stories, and volunteers that keep Morro Bay's maritime history alive. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to all who support the Central Coast's working waterfront. 🌊

Spend an evening at the Bay Theatre with the Morro Bay Maritime Museum for two special documentaries celebrating the ocean, Morro Bay, and the people connected to them.

🌊 SPEARA follows world champion spearfisher Mitsuki and her journey of healing, identity, and connection to the ocean, followed by a Q&A with Mitsuki and filmmaker Florian Baron.

🌿 Of Marshes and Morros shares the story of how Morro Bay’s estuary was recognized and protected by the local community.
