On Thursday afternoon, nearly 45 members of the WVU student body took a tour of the Morgantown History Museum as part of a city-wide tour of Morgantown. They learned about local industrial history, viewed antique photos of downtown, and toured the exhibit on Monongalia's extinct megafauna - all in an afternoon!

If you or your organization would like to organize a tour of our space, then please contact us.

And if you want to visit the museum on your own, you can do so during our regular business hours:

Wednesday-Friday: 11am-5pm
Saturday-Sunday: 12pm-6pm

And the first Friday of every month from 6pm-8pm, we are open late as part of the First Friday for the Arts Celebration in downtown Morgantown.

In collaboration with the Service League of Morgantown, this Monday the Morgantown History Museum hosted a group of youngsters as part of the "Early Morgantown Pottery: Summer Learning Experience".

The group took a tour of the history museum and took part in a special workshop regarding Morgantown's pottery history. They also visited the Old Stone House.

We're tootin' our horn today at the Easton Roller Mill!

The engine roared back to life after a long nap, and we can't wait for you to see the mill in action.

Built between 1864-67, the Easton Roller Mill provided our Monongalia County forebears with flour, cornmeal, and animal feed, and is one of the county's oldest remaining pieces of industrial history.

Thanks to a generous donation by the Monongalia County Historical Society, lots of grant funding, and the hard work of the staff of the Morgantown History Museum, the mill lives on as part of our county's history.

The mill will reopen in July, and we hope to see you there! More details to come.

Today was a cleaning day at the Easton Roller Mill!

Here's a sample of what we've been doing to get the mill ready for company - like removing over 150 years worth of dust!

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Morgantown History Museum would like to share the story of Dr. Syd S. and Dr. Felicia F. Peng, who both emigrated to the United States from Taiwan to study and teach mining engineering.

The couple met at Stanford University, and two weeks later Syd proposed. They married on June 14, 1968. The Pengs moved to Morgantown in the early 1970s when Syd got a teaching position at West Virginia University’s School of Mines (now the College of Mineral and Energy Resources or COMER).

Felicia also taught courses while pursuing her doctorate degree. Throughout their tenure, the Pengs were passionate about coal preparation, processing, and mining engineering - especially ground control and accident prevention.

The couple later established the Syd and Felicia Peng Professorship in Mining Engineering as well as the Syd S. and Felicia F. Peng Ground Control in Mining Award that provides scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students.

Dr. Felicia Peng passed away in 2021. However, the legacy lives on. The Morgantown History Museum now holds Dr. Felicia Peng’s wedding dress in the museum archives. It has been exhibited for a few special events, such as the recent Women in History presentation in April 2026.

The Morgantown History Museum hosted seven school tours last week. The scheduled groups visited the museum from Morgantown High School and the Wisdom Academy.
