Paul Patrick Moffa, age 74, of Granger, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice, Raclin House on May 14, 2026. Paul was born on March 4, 1952, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to the late Michael and Catherine (Calbaice) Moffa. Paul enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a Military Police officer for three years before receiving his honorable discharge in 1975. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 36 years to serving the community as a Sergeant with the St. Joseph County Police Department. During his long and honorable career, Paul worked as a K-9 handler and was a member of the department’s SWAT team before retiring in 2015. He also spent several years serving as a reserve officer with the Roseland Police Department.

Paul is survived by his longtime companion of 47 years, Karen Takach of Granger; his daughter, Tracey (John) Moffa-Henson; and his stepson, Cory (Rachel) Gehring. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Theresa Henson, Richard Paul Patrick Henson, Sierra (Austin) Weller, Cory Gehring Jr., and Camille Tamayo, as well as his great-grandchildren, Melody and Damon Weller. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, Dan, Tony, and Mike Moffa.

Outside of work, Paul enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved caring for his birds and dogs, planting flowers around his home, and spending time deer hunting. An avid motorcyclist, Paul made many trips across the country on his Harley, never letting the weather stand in his way.

Though he was a man of few words, those closest to him knew the kindness and soft heart behind his tough exterior. He was extremely proud of his children and generously gave his time volunteering with Special Olympics and the Center for Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to organizations supporting military veterans or K-9 rescue efforts.

A time to gather and remember Paul will be held from 11-2 pm Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. The US Marine Corps and VFW will render military honors at 1pm.
