"Shoutout to Ashley Vargas Colima, a student at MSU pursuing a degree in Graphic Design! Most of her art is influenced by her Mexican culture and how she navigates through a sense of belonging.

Here's her statement,
"Growing up in Las Vegas, I was immersed by my Mexican culture. I was surrounded by my people, our traditions, corrido and mariachi music, the language, traditional foods: it all gave me a sense of security and belonging. Moving almost 1,400 miles away to the North was a big change. I felt I lost my home and community.
By bringing back elements I once left behind, I’m able to help myself, and others, reconnect and build a new sense of belonging despite similar experiences of displacement. I hope others are inspired to reconnect with the traditions and memories that ground their own identities in sharing my story...""

Stop by the NAC until June 5 to see her beautiful prints!!

CAPSTONE SHOUTOUT! Kyler Meigs is working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design here at MSU! His art is inspired by mental health and is used for self-expression.

Here's his statement,
"'Within Me' is a series of collages that questions what identity means. I use art as a tool to convey and help me navigate my mental health, which is something I have struggled with all my life. This series specifically is a way to advocate for mental health that is often misunderstood by the public, as well as a method to help connect parts of me to the audience in a meaningful and insightful way. .....
Collaging in and of itself correlates to mental health, because it involves wrestling with the deconstruction and reconstructing of the media. I use my stipple drawings as a collage method to help the pieces feel more original and unique to my style of the art making process.
I hope my art lets you know that through time and the life seasons, you are never alone, and that someone else has felt the same way at one point."

Come see his collection of collages here at the NAC!

Shoutout to Evan Lovett, a capstone student who's completing his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design! His work for this exhibition stems from both his personal football experiences and his love for art.

Here's his statement,

"Portraits of the Athlete centers on a series of sports portraits that explore color, intensity, and emotion. I started playing football when I was six and recently finished my collegiate career after sixteen years in the sport. It has taught me discipline and perseverance that have carried over to my art practice and life. I’ve always been moved by the fact that every athlete has a different journey throughout their career. Everyone that plays a sport has a reason why, and a purpose that motivates them to show up, day in and day out....."

CAPSTONE SHOUTOUT!! Misaki Ishiwata is an international student from Japan who's working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting!

Here's her statement,

"Since childhood, crafting, painting, and drawing have been a central part of my life. I create to express emotions that are often difficult to put into words, especially because English is my second language. Through art, I have discovered a universal language; one that allows me to communicate beyond language boundaries.

In my work, I draw inspiration from the Impressionist movement. I am particularly interested in its sensitivity to light, color, and fleeting moments. I explore how shifts in tone and atmosphere can reflect inner emotional states. Soft light and muted colors suggest tranquility, memory, and nostalgia to me....."

Stop at the NAC to see her paintings until June 5!

Shoutout to Charlese Bell for her capstone! Bell grew up near the ocean and these experiences shaped her exhibition. She's pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing here at MSU!

Here's her statement,

""I think of memory as sand scattered across the ocean floor, always shifting—much like the memories I have with my siblings. After moving north, I’ve become more aware of the quiet ways these relationships change over time, often unnoticed until we pause and look back. I find myself questioning why certain moments remain vivid while others fade with such ease.....
As I hold onto a sense of longing for the closeness of childhood, I also acknowledge new growth that time makes possible. Memory’s fleeting nature gives it weight; without the risk of forgetting, we might value far less.""

CAPSTONE SHOUTOUT! Amadís Amaya is a student from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Photography degree here at Minot State!

Here's his statement: ""Time is a central idea I focus on. It’s such a prevalent theme throughout contemporary art, literature, and philosophy that it is something I come back to repeatedly and deliberately. Working with photography as a medium, especially in black and white, allows me to experiment with the perception of time – even if they are fractions of how we experience reality. As a consequence, my work ends up integrating the idea of existence and explores how it is parallel with the nature of memory...""
