WINSOR HOUSE, MILFORD
This house was designed and built in 1898 by William Armstrong, an architect known for designing St. Bartholomew's Church in NYC as well as part of the Museum of Natural History. Mr. Armstrong built this house as a summer retreat for his family. The house had landscaped gardens reaching from E. High St., all the way down to the Delaware River.
In 1926, Harold Winsor transformed what was then called "Armstrong Villa" into an exclusive hotel, charging up to $35 per week per guest!
Since the 1940's this property has housed a school, and is currently apartment building.
(Special thanks to Matthew Osterberg and his book, Matamoras to Shohola, A Journey Through Time, for this information)

DID YOU KNOW?!

Milford Methodist Church, now located at 210 E. Ann St. was originally built on the current sight of Milford Beach?!

After enduring many spring floods down by the river, the congregation decided to dismantle the building in 1835 and move it to higher ground. This was nine years after the structure was originally built next to the river.

The Settlers Inn in Hawley, PA was originally built in 1927 in response to the completion of man made Lake Wallenpaupack. Business leaders at the time foresaw the tourism industry increasing and they wanted to be prepared with proper accommodations for those tourists.
Unfortunately, the building did not open until 1944 because of The Great Depression and World War II. Between 1944 and 1980 there were several owners, but since 1980 the Genzlinger Family has proudly owned an operated the Inn.
Today they offer beautiful accommodations and delicious farm to table dining options for our modern day tourists and locals alike.

If you attended school in this building, what’s one great memory you can share?
