Can you believe having to wash your clothing like this?
Larry Bennett, one of the board members from the Middletown Fall Creek Historical Society, published this information on 3 different “Washing Machine” manufacturing companies that were located in and around Middletown. In its day these were considered high tech. Then shortly before World War II electric washing machines started becoming available. My favorite photo of this group is a load of completed wood washing machines, being hauled by a horse drawn wagon, from the west end of Middletown on Locust Street, heading east and going past the old home that burned a few years ago, and has sense been torn down. The home was on the south side of Locust Street just west of the intersection with 8th Street. Be sure to read and look at these photos showing the technology of the day. Thanks Larry for publishing.
