Finished the fine hair details, signed off and set this guy in his frame so he can get comfortable there. After he cures he’ll get varnished and mounted and adopted!
( there’s another finished piece but it’s a Christmas surprise for one of my ‘followers’ who I fear would recognize it is for them—- so ‘all you all’ will just have to wait till after Christmas to woo and aaaa over it!)

My father was a carpenter in his heart and his love language was gift giving. Thus it came to pass that ——he made around ‘ a dozen or so’ of these churches that were gifted to family and those he deemed ‘family’. By the time of his passing he had completed enough for each of his grandchildren to have a church to start their home Christmas decorating ‘centered around a church which is as it should be’ he’d announced.
Interestingly each church was styled just a bit differently - maybe a slight variation in the window cut outs or the steeple height, but the basic church was his signature design. I suppose he knew all along the real churches were true to some same basic pattern even if they reflected that truth a bit uniquely.
At any rate one of his now vintage churches had fallen into hands that didn’t ‘appreciate’ it’s value. Thus it came to pass that——— it was lost from sight for awhile…… until it was retrieved from its dank basement dwelling where it had been discarded- perhaps in the hopes that it would simply be forgotten.
Thus it came to pass that———- it sat dirty, perhaps even moldy and in need of repair alongside many of my father’s tools - the very tools that were used in its creation- except this time it was in my dear husband’s workshop.
So Richard sat about sprucing up this relic reminding him of the evenings he had spent with my father in another creative shop just a mile up the road.
I recall the friendly competition making up designs for Christmas sleighs between the two however Richard NEVER entered into crafting a church- that was Daddy’s sacred project. I’m guessing this repair job has a sacredness all its own to him now reflecting the love the two carpenters shared for each other.
Thus it was I waited outside the shop parameters to be invited in to do my finishing part- ‘making it look like new’. So many jokes about my work in the realm of ‘presentation’ with everything from food to house decoration. … but I had already determined to restore this wounded relic of my own history - this devastated piece- to its former glory ….. in order to present it flawless again to its rightful recipient who was so very loved by Daddy.
I had already painstakingly shopped for a glitter that would mimic the original finish. Then I had researched the adhesive and application that would cover the existing snowey finish, plus I had to figure out how to also camouflage Richard’s delicate repairs before it ‘snowed in church land’!
So it came to pass——- this church will be gracing a village in the home of my family’s clan again this Christmas season. And it is my deepest prayer that when the children of that home look into the heart of their little Christmas village they will be as filled with the same wonder I was as a child looking into the very first of my father’s churches……and just maybe they will see the glint in my father’s eyes as his heart embraces them into the family he deemed ready to host a ‘church centered Christmas’.
Of course my imagination runs ahead into some epic tale of a great great grandchild trying to recall this story - a remarkable salvation story where this particular church of their grandparent’s childhood was redeemed after it fell onto hard times.
And thus it will have come to pass - ——- the lineage of ‘a church centered Christmas.’ will be told about new beginnings, about coming out of the dark places into the light, about hope, about the joy of a ‘daddy’ who builds a unique church in the heart of our personal villages and about his ‘adopted’ son who uses that father’s same tools and design as he rebuilds that center after it has fallen into disrepair over no fault of its own.
Perhaps these dozen or so little churches scattered across the miles - miles that families often travel - carry far more than I’ll ever know about - what will come to pass…….
I trust as my father must have trusted - whatever will come to pass - there would be those who would use his tools and design to restore that unique center of our heart to the light and hope that is Christmas.

It was really not a great day in the studio- every artist has these on occasion - but I also burned dessert for a precious lunch date tomorrow-
I’m just going to call it a day- return to this mudd mess Friday evening- it’ll all be fine and my attitude will be much improved by then- so this pup will be much happier about climbing onto the canvas by then too!

Brushes and paint flying in the studio the last two days-
The ‘middle man’ came in from the cold and all three musketeers are curing in the corner for a few days- still lots of details to come to all three.
AND I got a good start on the this very special lady on the right- she’s very loved just the way she is and her person requested she be portrayed honestly - she’s also going to have to cure a bit before more ‘fluff’ can get added.
And finally, the custom board was cut for a very special Christmas surprise that will not be shown until after it is gifted- but I’m very excited for that piece as well.

Studying possible layouts for the forest fairy castle; finished glittering bird feeder and house and packed finished portions of the winter dome village for transport.
{ for the non-fairy- informed , fairies often use birds as a guide to the best possible areas to settle. Thus the bird feeder and houses will be the first structures delivered to the enchanted area. During the last visit of the planning commission mushroom lights were erected to prepare the mood}

Left is one of many fairy house layouts- still pondering which design will be most appealing to wondering fairy bands🧚‍♀️ .
Middle is a finished green kingdom gnome who is in training to guard a bird house.
Right is the winter dome for the fairy house when it is brought into a human house for the winter- it keeps the magic fairy air safe till spring when the house is returned to the garden.
