There are memories we choose to preserve, and others that remain with us long after we’ve left the places that formed us.

In What We Carry, Stanek Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new work by Miami-based artist SAMDI that reflects on the invisible inheritance of home, its people, its culture, its vibrations throughout time, and the emotional weight it continues to hold after displacement. The collection will not be revealed to the public until the artist reception on September 18th, don’t miss your chance to be of the first to enjoy SAMDI’s newest works!

Working primarily through the human figure and portraiture, SAMDI approaches painting without predetermined narratives or fixed outcomes. Each canvas begins as an intuitive conversation with material, often starting with spray paint before shifting across mediums as the work evolves. Rather than illustrating a concept, he responds to the forms, gestures, and emotional currents that emerge through his personal experiences as they collide with the act of painting itself. The result is a spontaneous and deeply personal body of work.

For this exhibition, that intuitive process becomes a means of revisiting the warmth and familiarity of a home left behind before political and social turbulence forced his departure. Rather than depicting memory literally, SAMDI allows fragments of his cultural inheritance to surface organically through the language of paint.

WORD is on display for ONE more week at Stanek Gallery Miami!

Featuring a diverse group of 11 contemporary artists, WORD explores the many ways language inhabits visual art.

As curator Jenny Profy notes, “Words have long played a significant role in art, serving as both visual forms and important tools of connection and communication.”

Throughout the exhibition, language operates simultaneously as image and message, capable of being playful, profound, direct, or poetic. Some works draw upon literary references and personal narratives, while others employ text as abstraction, symbol, or conceptual framework. Together, they reveal the written word as a material rich with cultural, emotional, and aesthetic possibilities.

In What We Carry, Stanek Gallery presents a new solo exhibition by Miami-based artist SAMDI, exploring memory, displacement, heritage, and the emotional ties that remain long after we leave the places that shaped us.

Each painting is coming directly from SAMDI’s studio to our gallery walls, being finished in the studio as we speak. Through expressive figures, portraits, and symbolic forms, SAMDI allows fragments of memory and his Haitian heritage to emerge organically through paint, creating works that feel both deeply personal and open to interpretation.

Join us at Stanek Gallery Miami for the opening of What We Carry on September 18, 2026. On view through November 7.

We decided we couldn’t let leave Stanek Gallery Miami’s walls quite yet. His use of graffiti and vintage signage made DiFronzo the perfect match for our current group show, WORD, investigating the use of language as an art medium.

If you also couldn’t get “Legacy” and “Evening Out (Friday Night)” out of your mind after The Calling, now is your chance to bring them home! Find the full catalog linked in our bio or contact us to schedule a personal visit before the exhibition closes on September 5th.
