It was incredible to see Grace Church filled with life, music, and community spirit once again.

As we look ahead to this exciting next chapter, we need a name for the new event center that truly reflects what this space will become.

Our vision is a welcoming, vibrant hub with a strong focus on Arts & Music, while remaining open to community events of all kinds.

We want to make sure the name honors the building's roots by keeping "Grace" in the title, while also letting people know it’s right here in Mexico.

Spend part of your Saturday with us! 🏛️✨

If you’re out and about in the Village of Mexico this weekend, we’d love for you to stop by. This Saturday, June 20th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, all three of our historical society buildings will be open to the public, the Starr Clark Tin Shop & Underground Railroad Museum, 1855 Chandler~Ames Bank, and the new Event Center (formally Grace Episcopal Church).

Come take a look inside, learn a bit more about Mexico's rich history, and see firsthand what the Mexico Historical Society is working on to keep our local heritage alive.

Whether you've lived here for years or are just passing through, there is always something new to discover. We can't wait to see you there!

Last night, the Mexico Historical Society welcomed the community inside the new event center, Grace Church. We filled the pews with 36 people for the first time since 2022!

The night opened with "God Bless America," beautifully sung by special guest and friend of the Mexico Historical Society, Charrie Lehman—a perfect way to open the building and let everyone experience its incredible acoustics.

Barry Haynes shared a brief history of the building, followed by Jim Hotchkiss, who gave an update on the restoration work already underway and the exciting plans still to come. After a quick Q&A session, neighbors and friends spent time mingling and exploring the historic space.

Did you hear the Grace Church bell ring last night? Board member Bill Lighthall rang it for the first time in years, followed by Brian Clark—son of Janice Clark, who we know would be absolutely thrilled with this next chapter for her beloved church. ✨

The Mexico Historical Society closed on the church building located at 4381 Church Street, Mexico on May 29th.

Please join us Saturday morning, June 13, at 10:00am at the small Arthur Cemetery on George Road, Mexico, for a celebration to unveil the Pomeroy Foundation Patriot Marker commemorating Revolutionary War Veterans.

There will be a short ceremony to remember Ebenezer Ormsby and Isiah Keeler. All are welcome to attend and visit this almost-forgotten cemetery on Mexico's northwest corner.

Arthur Cemetery was also called the Greenville Cemetery. Early settlers from Tollgate, Arthur and Texas are at rest here. The earliest burial was 1826.

The Arthur Cemetery is located on the east side of the George Road, two miles from State Route 104 west of the Village, #2 on the map.

Wonderful news from the Historical Society!

We have officially bought the historic former Grace Episcopal Church in the heart of Mexico! After almost 18 months of waiting, the final legal paperwork was signed on May 29, 2026 and it's all ours now!

We are incredibly proud to be able to preserve this significant local landmark for the entire community of Mexico.

Our vision is to use the building as an event center and meeting facility, creating a wonderful new space for local gatherings and activities, while preserving its history.

Over the coming weeks you'll see the doors wide open and lots of activity inside. The sanctuary will remain mostly the same and may be used for weddings, concerts, plays, and who-knows-what-else. The space inside the entrance will be undergoing some significant and much-needed remodeling so it may be used for small gatherings, meetings, and some space to exhibit the history of the building.

The 1874 Steere and Turner pipe organ will be tuned, returning it to tip-top condition.

Much more information will be posted as we work our way through the renovation of this historic building!
