The Motte Museum & Family send our love to the family and friends of Katie Keyes today, on the day of her Celebration of Life. Katie was a longtime friend of the Motte Family and truly an institution at the Motte Museum. From helping the Museum find its way through history, to being godmother to Leon Motte’s daughter, Aimee, Katie’s connection to the Motte Family and the Barn ran deep. We are so grateful for the lasting impact Katie had on our Museum and our family. We will deeply miss the wisdom, friendship, and history she brought to the Barn. Our hearts are with all those who knew and loved her today. 🤍

In Loving Memory of Leon Motte
July 12, 1940 – August 24, 2026

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of the Motte Family patriarch and founder of the Motte Historical Museum Barn, Leon Motte.

Leon was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. And while he was a man of many passions and talents, everything paled in comparison to the pride he took in being a farmer.

The Motte Museum rides on the shoulders of Leon’s dreams of community and his deep love for his roots. We are heartbroken at the loss of this giant.

To every guest who visited the Barn during Leon’s lifetime - whether as a museum or, long before that, as a farm stand - we thank you. Please know, he did it all for you. 🖤

In honor of Leon’s passing, the Motte Museum will be closed Saturday and Sunday, August 29–30.

We will also be flying the Barn’s flag at half-staff in his memory.

Details regarding his Celebration of Life will be shared at a later date.
