What a success our October edition of DepotAfterDark was!! But it was thanks to our 38 talented and diverse artist vendors, the amazing live music of @badboysdanceparty , the scare factor of @pyromancircus and @patchtheclown , and our huge extended Trunk or Treat with the @cityofperris and @perrisyac . Riverside Sheriff's kept the peace while over 3k people came out and turned up Downtown Perris!!! We even had another flash mob performance courtesy of @cielitolindoperris

Doing most of this alone I was beyond grateful for 2 huge helpers for this event:
@createnewtab and @endless_illustrations helped me continue to decorate over a 2 day period in order to try and change the atmosphere of our historic Depot into our Halloween themed event. Just wait til next year though!!!

And I didn't get any pictures from the costume contest because I was running around and passing out the prizes, over $750 in prizes in total to be exact. Thanks to Joshua Naggar of Naggar Law for helping sponsor and be the voice during the costume contest. But we had so many coop costumes and group costumes that I wish I had been able to get pics of!!! Did I mention that we got to have 3 amazing city official judges?! Mayor Michael Vargas, Mayor Pro Temp David Starr Rabb, and Community Services Supervisor Rachel Pineda had the tough job of judging are categories and settling on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for multiple categories of costume.

Did we mention that we also had a Star Wars battle scene photo op? It managed to draw in some amazing Star Wars cosplay with multiple storm troopers, Jedis, and a Chewbacca!?!? Again, wait til next year to see this get developed even further!!

The pics provided do not do the event justice as there were some many people!
Til next month Perris!!

Tribal Belief Systems / Judeo-Christian Belief Systems
More alike than you might think.
Our region; Perris Valley, San Jacinto, and Temecula Valley, is rich in historical
tribal artifacts and one could give the perfunctory lecture commenting on their art forms
and giving shallow interpretations of their meanings, but there is more to talk about
here.
All groups of people have belief systems, from the smallest band to the most
complex industrial society. These belief systems are based in myth. Myth, in this
instance, is not fiction or fairy tale. Mythology is the group of stories that must be
believed on FAITH. They are stories that might not be based in historical fact, but they
are religious truths. Myths just need to support patterns of thought and behavior as they
serve to explain the large questions surrounding human existence.
As our Judeo-Christian ancestors have left us liturgical texts to explain their belief
systems, the tribal nations of North America have passed on their beliefs through oral
tradition as well as artifacts in the form of pictographs and petroglyphs.
In celebration of Native North American Month (November), we will be examining
more closely the mythology and artifacts of the local indigenous peoples. Please join us
for an intriguing and thought provoking talk, comparing these two group’s belief
systems. You might find that they have more in common than you once thought!

Also get ready for the return of Depot After Dark on Oct 29th, 2021 4pm-9pm with a huge Halloween decorated Depot, live music, huge extended Trunk or Treat brought to you by the combined effort of The City of Perris, The Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the artist vendors showing at the Perris 'Depot After Dark'. The truck or treat will run from 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Also, I guess we should mention the huge costume contest we have devised with OVER $750 in costume contest prizes and the prize pool is actually still growing thanks to Joshua Naggar of Naggar Law (located here in Perris). With category winners winning $50 gift cards, Nerf guns, and more, and to be judged by multiple mystery judges. Hundreds of dollars in subsidiary prizes as well!!! Costume contest will take place at 7:30pm.

This will be a big event and all parking will be directed to the Metrolink station parking lots next to our venue.

I have been putting in so much effort and time into making Perris's first art market as I feel Perris has always had an untapped art need. We will have @hibachiempire serving up amazing food. And my friend, will be dj all night as well as a surprise performance from a local Perris dance school. Have many artists and artisans lined up and the mayor may even be as excited as I am for this. Will be an amazing night!!!

One more fabulous, 19th annual ‘Rods and Rails and Potato Festival’ at Orange Empire Railway Museum on June 9th, 2018!
Thank you to The City of Perris for inviting us to participate once again.
Special thanks to our youth volunteers. Kenny, Devon and Serena (all rounded up by Board Member Taylor Sambrano) and our five YAC volunteers (Youth Advisory Council, 5th District from Riverside). We are very appreciative for the fantastic potato sack logo created by artist Greg Acree. The honored Starnes family loved it!
