McLean Project for the Arts’ Winter Exhibitions

MPA welcomes two new shows—Pieced Together, We are Whole and Playing with Shadows: Works by Liz Lescault—with an Opening Exhibition Reception on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. and an artist talk on Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. Pieced Together features artists who do nontraditional quilting to illustrate ideas of communion, cohesion, gathering, blending and building. Playing with Shadows features sculptures that Lescault created with extruded filaments that create shadows that become part of the piece. Both events are free and open to the public, plus, you can view the works Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. // 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean

Head out for New Year's Day 5Ks, MLK Day volunteering, Lunar New Year celebrations and a Bon Jovi cover band show.

Snow Much Fun — Register NOW for Winter and Spring Art Classes!

Keep the post-holiday blues at bay with an MPA Art Class! Our winter and spring lineup includes many of our long-time favorites, as well as exciting new options, such as Plein Air with Stephanie Chang, and the just announced Assemblage Alchemy: Turning Found Objects into Art, with new instructor Zofie King.

We're also pleased to offer another season of Creating Artwork with Layered Paper Workshops with instructor Ronni Jolles. Unless otherwise noted, classes will take place in our DuVal Studio.

And don't forget our classes for kids — including always popular Abrakadoodle offerings for preschoolers, and those up to age 12; and a Drawing Basics class Saturday afternoons for teens (and adults).

Classes begin January 21, and you can see the complete listing of offerings, as well as registration information at https://mpaart.org/education/art-classes/

It's an Inspiring Time
for McLean Project for the Arts!

Show your support by midnight!

With only hours remaining in 2024, today is your final opportunity to support MPA's Annual Giving Campaign.

MPA Inspires

As we strive to exhibit, educate, and inspire excellence, our community remains the body, and soul of what we do:

In 2024 alone, MPA proudly provided 75 professional and hundreds of student artists with opportunities to exhibit their work.

2024 also saw MPA make great inroads in our planned expansion, acquiring a 6,000-square-foot space in downtown McLean to complement our current operations and establish a new arts & education center–a facility designed to enhance arts accessibility for the entire community.

All the while, we remained focused on our ongoing programs: showcasing works by new and established artists, expanding our visual arts classes, and growing MPA ArtReach to reach underserved populations.

As we embark on this exciting new chapter, please help MPA continue connecting our community and creating a sense of belonging--donate to our Annual Giving Campaign today. Your continued partnership is not just a donation, it’s a direct investment in this treasured community arts organization. Make your gift today. And remember: All donations made by midnight tonight, December 31, are tax-deductible towards your 2024 income taxes.

Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. Wishing you a joyful and healthy New Year.

Make your gift before midnight!

Join Us!

As the 2024 calendar year draws to a close, MPA is conducting our Annual Giving Campaign. It's an inspiring time for McLean Project for the Arts and our community!

MPA Educates

Throughout 2024, MPA continued growing our MPA ArtReach program to reach our ever-expanding ArtReach community of FCPS school students, community partners, adults and seniors. ArtReach continues to focus on and prioritize our differently abled community who are making great artistic strides every week.

Through this past year MPA ArtReach has enriched the daily lives of 2,901 participants through 127 events. These 127 ArtReach events include virtual and in-person art classes, in-class slide lectures, as well as in-gallery tours for school age students, adults and seniors. We are also grateful to have been able to create an evergreen in-gallery / in-classroom art education booklet which engages students and adults, combining contemporary art with the Virgina Standards of Learning (SOL’s) for Reading, Writing, Poetry and Drawing.

Our upcoming Spring Solo exhibitions (2025) will again bring Title 1 school groups into our gallery from all parts of our community including our advance registration for the entire 2nd grade from Timber Lane Elementary School. Additionally, during this past Spring/ Fall 2024 we welcomed Title I school students from the fourth grade of Hybla Valley Elementary School, and 2nd and 3rd grade Westlawn Elementary School students. We also provided in-depth STEAM programming of Art & Math for Special Need populations, including in-classroom visits at McLean High School, Langley High School and Langston High Alternative High School and in-gallery visits from SPARC Solutions and ServiceSource groups and Second Story Safe Youth Project groups.

Your support fuels all of this incredible work, and we can’t wait for what’s ahead in 2025! Together, we will continue to inspire creativity, connect our community through the arts, and make a lasting impact. Make your gift today!
