MPA’s ArtReach Director Sharon Fishel teaches a weekly class at the new Fairfax County Wellness Center For Older Adults in Fairfax, in coordination with the county and our community partner, ServiceSource.

For this week’s class they talked about tortoises as endangered species and made collaged paper plate tortoise sculptural ornaments to decorate an “Eco-Christmas“ Tree.

MPA’s ArtReach is a key part of our mission to provide access to visual arts education to all members of our community, and we’re excited to be providing this programming in an area of our county not previously served by ArtReach.

Thank you to our many donors that help make this programming possible. If you’d like to make a contribution towards this outreach, see https://mpaart.org/annual-giving-2022/

We hope to see you soon in our galleries--registration for our winter/spring classes opens December 5, and our Winter Exhibitions Opening Exhibition Reception takes place December 9, from 7-9pm.

Thank you to the generous donors who have supported MPA so far today--we are SO CLOSE to reaching our goal!

No gift is too small, and all gifts received before midnight tonight will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 today. Your gift will have TWICE the impact!

Any amount you can give--whether it's $10 or $500--has a tangible impact on the visual arts in our community, and will help MPA continue to provide both in-person and virtual arts education programming to some of our community residents affected most by the ever-changing public health situation.

Thank you for your generosity. With your help we can meet our goal! Donate now: https://mpaart.app.neoncrm.com/forms/2022givingtuesday

It's !

As McLean Project for the Arts has celebrated our 60th anniversary throughout 2022, we’ve been reminded of the central role that art serves in our community, and the importance of the work we do to provide equal opportunity for all residents of our diverse area. We need to think local, act local and give local. With your support, MPA can continue to provide both in-person and virtual arts education programming to some of our community residents affected most by the ever-changing public health situation.

It's National Philanthropy Day -
Change the world with a giving heart.

MPA is a proud 501c3 nonprofit and wouldn't be able to offer our ArtReach programming to our community without the help of our generous donors.

We are excited about the eight groups who have come in for ArtReach visits during our Continuum exhibition -- including diverse audiences of seniors, an afterschool group from Second Story, and community programs serving adults with special needs. One of the partners we've been especially happy about welcoming has been a special ed class from McLean High School and their teacher, John DeMers.

ArtReach Director Sharon Fishel visited the McLean High School in October and worked with the class on a project to create boxes with environmental themes -- relating to Peter Winant's Absent Present project currently on display in our Continuum: Artists Teaching Artists exhibition. And as a follow-up to that activity, the class utilized the community bus system a few weeks later to travel to our gallery for a tour of the exhibition, seeing Winant's work in person, as well as other work by our 18 exhibiting artists.

This connection extending the reach of our exhibitions through our ArtReach art education program is what makes MPA's exhibition program unique and is at the forefront of our mission to make our exhibitions and arts education accessible to all in our community. We can't wait to welcome Mr. DeMers' students to our Winter Exhibition!
