We have the thigh bone of a prehistoric three-toed horse that came from this site. Alex Keith of Frontier County donated this artifact to the DAR Museum, who gifted their collection to the High Plains Historical Society. Fascinating view of how the bones were extracted - certainly not for the faint of heart.

Fear of heights? Not this archeologist! 🫣

Featured in the newly published book, "Below Nebraska: Archeology and Ancestors," this photograph shows an archeologist scaling a cliff during excavations at the Lime Creek site.

The site was one of three Late Paleoindian sites in the Medicine Creek Valley excavated by the University of Nebraska State Museum - Morrill Hall in 1947-1950 before the flooding of the Harry Strunk Reservoir.

Happy Constitution Day! 📜 On September 17, 1787, delegates gathered at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia to sign the U.S. Constitution, establishing the foundation of our nation's government.

It’s inspiring how quickly an empty room can be transformed into an amazing exhibit!

Planning and a large inventory certainly help, but the real magic happens when talented people come together to pull it all together. ✨

Just in time for Heritage Days, our new temporary exhibit celebrates the theme of “Homecoming.” We’ve been busy behind the scenes bringing this exhibit—and several other museum updates—to life.

Be sure to stop in, take a look around, and see what’s new! We’re excited to share these changes with you and hope you’ll enjoy a little “Homecoming” at the museum. ❤️

It’s been a little quiet around here lately—not because things haven’t been happening, but because a LOT has been happening behind the scenes! 😊

We’ve been busy making exhibit updates, preparing new displays, and giving some areas of the museum a fresh look. There’s been plenty of planning, organizing, moving, and creating going on!

We’re excited to start sharing some of the changes with you, so stay tuned. There’s lots to see at the museum, and we can’t wait for you to come take a look!

Honoring John Hubert — a dedicated leader, longtime board member, and former president of the High Plains Historical Society. John poured both his knowledge and his hard work into the museum, becoming an early and valued contributor to its growth. His passion for preserving local history was evident in everything he did. We are deeply grateful for his service, and he will be truly missed.
