“This is my favorite field trip I’ve ever been on!”

“I don’t want to leave, I want to do this forever!”

Just some of the things we overheard in the classroom yesterday during our Encaustic Workshops.

Seventh and eighth graders from Fieldale Collinsville Middle School’s gifted program were with us all day, working with Karen Eide, teaching artist with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Great work, everyone!

Students from Martinsville High School filled our classroom yesterday to take part in an Encaustic Workshop led by Karen Eide.

Karen is a teaching artist with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, specializing in encaustic painting, an ancient technique using molten wax to create layered artwork. Students tried this technique for the first time ever, incorporating layered collage elements to create their final vision.

Piedmont Arts is an affiliate of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, allowing this amazing opportunity for our students. This workshop is also supported by a generous donation from the For Alison Foundation.
