Tours of The Castle are available April through December, but we provide a full calendar of history-related events throughout the year. Archaeology digs, themed house tours, food history dinners, cemetery tours, and summer history camps are among the many programs we offer. New and exciting programs are developed each year to continue to tell the story of our past. We invite you to visit and connect to the historical legacy of The Castle and our community.

During Autumn After Dark: Fall Fest at The Castle, guests will have the opportunity to experience an exclusive themed tour created especially for this one-night-only event. Hazel Ebinger: Remembering Marietta at 150

In 1938, Marietta celebrated its 150th birthday with a major community celebration—and Hazel Ebinger was part of the team that helped make it happen. As a member of the celebration committee and a participant in its commemorative pageant, Hazel had a front-row seat as Marietta looked back on its founding and celebrated a century and a half of community history.

William Roeser, Jr.: Marietta Celebrates 100 Years
What was Marietta like when the United States turned 100?
Much like this year’s 250th anniversary celebrations, communities across the country came together 150 years ago to celebrate the nation’s Centennial in 1876—and Marietta was no exception.

William Roeser, Jr. was a member of the local committee that helped organize Marietta’s Centennial celebration. Through his story, we can explore how Marietta marked this enormous national milestone and looked back at the people, events, and ideals that shaped the United States.

Jewett Palmer: A Mariettian Between Generations
Jewett Palmer lived through a period of enormous change in American history. An abolitionist, Civil War veteran, mayor of Marietta, and descendant of Revolutionary War ancestors, Palmer's life connects generations of Americans—from those who fought for independence to those who experienced the Civil War and its aftermath.

Explore extraordinary earthworks in southern Ohio during our 2026 Cultural Caravan Bus Tour!

On Saturday, October 10th, we will depart from Marietta at 8 AM to visit the conjoined circle and octagon at Newark and the unique Mound City mortuary site at Chillicothe, and a special “mystery location”.

These sites are part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing that was achieved in 2023, Ohio’s first such international recognition, and among only 27 World Heritage sites listed in the United States. A preparatory lecture will be given by Castle archaeologist Wes Clarke, who will also lead the trip, and a seated lunch will be served at the Earthworks Café in Newark.

Joseph Rogers: Soldier, Spy, and Defender of Marietta
Joseph Rogers didn't leave the fight behind when the Revolutionary War ended. A veteran of the Revolution who served in General Daniel Morgan’s famous rifle corps, Rogers later became a spy and ranger, who helped protect the young Marietta settlement.

His life connects two very different chapters of American history: the fight for independence and the difficult early years of settlement in the Ohio Country.

Nathaniel Saltanstall knew the Revolutionary War from the front lines. A naval officer and militia soldier, Saltanstall fought against British forces during the American Revolution—including troops commanded by the infamous Benedict Arnold.

Alice Leffingwell Creelman: Remembering America’s Revolutionary Past
Alice Leffingwell Creelman was a member of Marietta’s local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization dedicated to remembering and honoring those who helped create the United States.

During the Coming Alive Cemetery Tour, Alice will share her perspective on the important role women’s organizations like the DAR played in preserving family histories, commemorating America’s founding generation, and keeping the stories of earlier Americans alive.

Her story isn't just about the Revolution—it’s about how later generations chose to remember it.
