The nation's premier traveling exhibition of Black history featuring over 15,000 artifacts is coming to SOMA on October 3-4th!

Founded by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, the mobile museum is a renowned repository of more than 10,000 original artifacts ranging from the trans-Atlantic slave trade to hip-hop culture. It has a diverse collection of authentic documents bearing the signatures of revered figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Angela Davis, Carter G. Woodson, Mary Mcleod Bethune and many more.

At 2pm on October 3rd Dr. el-Hakin will present a program entitled “250 Years of a Resilient People”.

The mobile museum has visited numerous colleges, corporate spaces, libraries, festivals and conferences spanning more than 40 states and 1,000 institutions. Its arrival in Maplewood offers residents and visitors a powerful opportunity to engage with authentic artifacts that illuminate centuries of Black history, resilience, and cultural contribution. The South Orange/Maplewood community is proud to host this extraordinary exhibition and invites all residents, students, educators, and families to attend.

Please note that this off-site event, co-sponsored by the Maplewood Library Foundation and other community organizations, will take place at the Dehart Community Center at 120 Burnet Ave in Maplewood. We look forward to seeing you there!
