Literary Open Mic is tomorrow (Thursday, October 15) at Glenn Eure Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head at 6:30pm. This free event is open to everyone.

Artist Holly Gottenborg will be leading two mixed media workshops at Dare Arts this fall.

There will be a Sculpted Stories Workshop on Thursday, October 29, where participants will create a one-of-a-kind 4×4 mixed-media assemblage that combines a meaningful personal message with layers of texture, color, and found objects.

And, you can learn the art of Suminagashi (paper marbling) and experiment with color and movement while creating your own handmade stationery with Holly at 6pm on Wednesday, November 18.

National Board Certified Teacher Mari Beth LaRose will lead a Kids Art Party this Saturday (October 17) at 5pm at Dare Arts. 🎨 💀 🎨

Kids will discover the meaningful history behind Día de los Mu***os while painting their own custom canvas. We will be turning off the main lights and turning on the black lights for an unforgettable glow-in-the-dark painting experience!

Check out our October Power of Art workshops at the Baum Center in Kill Devil Hills, Virginia S. Tillett Community Center in Manteo, and Fessenden Center in Buxton.

Thanks to a Community Benefit Grant from Outer Banks Health and support from Barbara Hanft & Roland McDevitt, these workshops are free and all supplies are included.

Pre-registration is required so that the instructors can plan ahead for supplies. Please contact the community centers using the phone numbers listed on the graphic to register.

In November our Vault Gallery will feature a collection of face jugs, functional pottery, and dragon vases by North Carolina potter Ben A. Watford.

These particular face jugs emerged in the Carolinas during the era of slavery. Throwing his work on the wheel, then hand building the faces, dragons, and other attachments, these vessels became a way of marking what could not otherwise be marked and remembering those whose histories were too often denied. Watford carries this legacy forward through his own creative interpretations.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, November 6 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Ben and view his work. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
