Article from The Daily Tribune, June 24, 2005. The Festival in the Park has been an annual tradition in Madison Heights since 1985. The event, which includes live music, food trucks and other fun activities, draws thousands of people each year to enjoy our city's spectacular fireworks display. This year's Festival in the Park, which will also commemorate America's 250th anniversary, will be held on Sunday, June 28, at Civic Center Park. As part of the celebration, the Madison Heights Historical Commission will be holding a special Open House that day. Our Heritage Rooms museum, located on the lower level of City Hall, will be open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We invite you to take a stroll through Madison Heights history before heading over to the Festival in the Park to enjoy the celebration and one of the best fireworks displays around!

Bringing the kids to the fireworks at Festival in the Park this year? Stop by the Heritage Rooms historical museum on the lower level of City Hall first! We're holding a special Open House from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, to celebrate Madison Heights history and America's 250th birthday. Kids will love playing with vintage toys in our replica one-room schoolhouse classroom, sitting at the desks and writing on the old-fashioned chalkboards. We hope you'll stop by before the fireworks to take a stroll through Madison Heights history, celebrate America's 250th birthday and enjoy all the great festivities at Festival in the Park!

“Doc” Walker’s Texaco station opened at the corner of Sixth and John R in the mid-1920s. The station was replaced by a used car lot in the late 1950s. From our archives, we believe that Sixth was located south of Eleven Mile Road, somewhere in the vicinity of the old Township/City Hall at 26305 John R. Does anyone remember a street named Sixth in Madison Heights, where it was located, and whether it was later renamed?
