While work can be purchased online and in-person through September 13th, this party is one last hurrah for all the great work that's been done.

Look forward to the opening of "waited spaces", a KMAC Shop show featuring the work of Louisville-based artist Teri Dryden. This show will open to the public on Tuesday, September 22nd with a reception taking place on Thursday, October 1st from 5-8pm.

In a world saturated with constant noise and visual overstimulation, Dryden's creative practice delves into the Japanese concept of "Ma," celebrating the beauty of negative space. "This aesthetic, integral to Japanese culture", she writes, "embodies the idea that the empty intervals between objects, sounds, or moments are just as vital as the active elements, allowing room for balance, harmony, and deeper meaning in life."

Everybody Loves KMAC! Give for Good Day is Thursday, September 10th. On this day, you can visit GiveforGoodLou.org to support organizations that mean the most to you.

KMAC is essential in keeping our downtown a vital hub of creative energy. Each year, our community space allows thousands of Kentuckiana schoolchildren to benefit from our art education. Every day, we welcome the families and individuals that come through our door to see our unique exhibitions and participate in our creative programming.

A donation of any amount helps us achieve our mission of connecting people to art and creative practice. On September 10th, be sure to visit us at www.giveforgoodlouisville.org/organization/kmac-museum.

"nightseed" is a free, shared, in-person VR experience at KMAC, created by Chelsea Komschlies in collaboration with Louisville Makes Games and the Louisville Orchestra. Guests can reserve a 15-minute timeslot on Friday, August 21, from 6:00-8:30pm, or Saturday, August 22, from 1:30-4:00pm.

Performed with a live harpist alongside an immersive digital score, the piece exists somewhere between a composed musical work and a playable game: a calm, collaborative experience in which listening becomes active, physical, and shared. Rather than following a fixed path, players discover the work by trying things, noticing what changes, and remembering being there together.

Louisville Public Media, in collaboration with KMAC, is proud to present another season of “Race Unwrapped," featuring podcast host Michelle Tyrene Johnson, an art workshop, and a poetry slam. This event is free, but due to limited space, please RSVP at eventbrite.com/e/race-unwrapped-season-5-unwrap-party-art-as-activism-tickets-1996258713550.

We’ll start with a conversation between “Race Unwrapped” host and playwright Michelle Tyrene Johnson and Louisville poet and artist Lance G. Newman II (Mr. SpreadLove). They’ll talk about how they see the role of their own work in fostering social change, and reflect on the artists of color who shared their stories on the podcast this season.

You’ll be empowered to create your own art with guidance from KMAC staff, no experience necessary! We’ll ask you to think about the future you’d like to see in Louisville, and how we can build it together. After the conversation, we’ll be collecting audio and video of the art pieces you created, to combine and share them in a community archive. Mr. SpreadLove will conclude the afternoon with KMAC’s monthly poetry slam, and the theme this time is, “I Will.” Poets are invited to explore their visions for the future, and how we get there from here.
