We are thrilled to announce our upcoming show “Views of Pagan, Burma, 1975-76”, an exhibition of photographs by Ursula Schulz-Dornburg (Ursula Schulz-Dornburg) that document the remains of the ancient city of Pagan. September 19 - October 31, 2026.

An address suggests permanence, yet the relation between a building and a site is always provisional. A street number, business name, sign, or detachable fragment may survive even after the conditions that gave them meaning have disappeared. The works in 1911 Sunset Boulevard do not attempt to rebuild Taix from its remnants. They present rooms, bodies, atmospheres, interruptions, surfaces, and aftereffects to suggest how Taix persists as a set of partial encounters.

“For six decades, famed French restaurant Taix was located at 1911 Sunset Boulevard, smack in the center of Echo Park. As the neighborhood around it drastically changed, Taix seemed frozen in time, its plush booths, chalet-like architecture, and iconic French onion soup offering a sense of consistency in an ever-changing world. Different generations and crowds mixed freely inside, and it had become something of a hub for LA’s fledgling literary and performance scene. This exhibition brings together six artists who honor the life and legacy of this quintessentially Angeleno establishment. Highlights include Maxfield Hegedus’s crisp photographs capturing its architectural eccentricity, Marcel Alcalá’s painting of DJs at “Gay Guy Night,” and Abdi Taslimi’s photographs that imbue the restaurant’s interiors with the gravitas of a Dutch still life.“ - Hyperallergic

Marcel Alcalá, Maxfield Hegedus, Kittipong, Arturo Soto, Abdi Taslimi, Evan Whale with Ed Ruscha’s Every Building on the Sunset Strip

An exhibition of works made in response to the former Taix French Restaurant — during its final months, on its closing night, and after its demolition. Photographs, altered photographic works, and a single painting trace the restaurant from crowded rooms to exposed ground.

Please save the date for our forthcoming group exhibition 1911 Sunset Boulevard, opening August 8th from 6 to 8 pm at 818 S Broadway, 10th floor. Six artists offer their immediate and varies responses to the site of the recently closed and demolished Taix French Restaurant in Echo Park. Ranging from the forensic to emotive to void, the works in the exhibition celebrate an idiosyncratic center of Los Angele’s cultural life, a contemporary café-concert that is now sorely missed.

Featuring works by Marcel Alcalá (Marcel Alcalá), Maxfield Hegedus (Maxfield Hegedus), Kitti Pong (kitti,), Ed Ruscha, Arturo Soto (Arturo Soto), Abdi Taslimi (Abdi Taslimi), and Evan Whale (Evan Whale)
