A liner reminder:

Although liners have traditionally been used when framing canvases, Picture Framers have discovered in recent years the elegance that liners lend to paper-bourne art such as lithographs, etchings, and photographs. Used in conjunction with mats, liners add depth and character to the final design. These Mat-and-Liner Combinations are also an excellent way to create shadow boxes for artifacts. Additionally, Mat Liners (wood profiles with no rabbet) provide another new and exciting option for creative framing.

Some more detailed shots of that custom fabric wrapped liner we featured last week. We started with a 63 profile wrapped seamless mounted on a 3/8“ thick spacer to give us an overall three-quarter inch depth and then added a 1/2” spacer frame to create a half inch deep rabbet. The spacer frame was wrapped with a contrasting green faux silk. We then wrapped a backing board with the same fabric as the seamless 63. This was designed by Rose City Framemakers, Sparta NJ (Rose City Framemakers).

A classic post of a classic map from Brentano’s Custom Fine Art & Framing (joseph brentano) in NYC shared this stunning piece:

“Original hand-colored antique celestial map by Nicolas & Guillaume Sanson published in Amsterdam circa 1700. Several diagrams on one sheet explaining the orbit of the planets in the solar system, the orbit of the moon around the earth and diagrams of the constellations of the Great Bear and the Little Bear. Plate dimensions 7 x 8 inches. Custom framed in a rusted wrought iron heavily pitted frame. I selected a Frank's Fabrics unique design for the linen matting which reminded me of the architecture and history I enjoyed whilst in Amsterdam not to long ago.”

Put fabric on it!

A high-end designer asked us to cover some large wooden panels for a custom kitchen in Belgian linen and then returned to ask us if we could cover these hidden receptacle covers with matching linen. We said we would give it a shot and here is how they ended up.
