Now on view through August 1, 2027 at the Pérez Art Museum Miami , Anina Major: The Sacred Mangrove. The Bahamian artist’s most significant institutional presentation in the United States to date transforms PAMM’s waterfront gallery into a protective landscape of woven clay, bottle trees, and shells.

“The Sacred Mangrove reminds us that culture is not inherited passively—it is made and remade through the work of countless hands across generations. Major honors those often-unseen histories by transforming weaving into sculpture and the gallery into a living landscape where memory, ancestry, and care become tangible experiences,” said PAMM Curator Jennifer Inacio.

"Anina Major: The Sacred Mangrove" opens tomorrow at Pérez Art Museum Miami . On view October 1, 2026–August 1, 2027

Rooted in Bahamian traditions of weaving, memory, and cultural inheritance, The Sacred Mangrove is an immersive installation that brings together hand-woven clay, towering sculptures, bottle trees, and a path of crushed conch shells.

Drawing on the material and cultural traditions of The Bahamas, Major explores memory, ancestry, belonging, and the intertwined cultural and ecological histories of the Caribbean.

This Sunday, September 27th at 11:30am, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art presents Resonances: Ashwini Bhat in Conversation with Jenni Sorkin

How can place, memory, and a sense of belonging shape an artist’s practice? Join art historian Jenni Sorkin, Professor and Chair, Department of History of Art & Architecture, UCSB, and Bay-Area based sculptor Ashwini Bhat to celebrate Resonances (Radius Books, 2026), Bhat’s first monograph, that traces her artistic journey and embrace of California as a homeland, and its own primary role in her narrative sculptural practice.

Heide Fasnacht's Nature Once Removed, now on view until November 7th. Shoshana Wayne Gallery is open Tuesday by appointment only and Wednesday - Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.

For Fasnacht, photographs function as excavations. They bridge remembered experience and forgotten histories while carrying the traces of their own making. The paintings allow those transformations to remain visible, holding multiple histories within a single surface.

Presented in Los Angeles at a moment defined by ongoing strain, What Holds does not offer spectacle or resolution. It remains with the conditions that sustain it, with the systems that hold under pressure and the labor that keeps them in place. The work turns toward these structures without stabilizing them, allowing their strain and exposure to stay visible. What emerges is not a fixed image but something held in tension, built through contact, and maintained over time
