In Memory of Midge Gisel (1929–2026)

Midge Gisel began her life in show business as a child actor with the Rubinettes, even appearing in the "Our Gang" comedies. She loved sharing stories from those early Hollywood days—like spotting Alfalfa on set or laughing about the time Mickey Rooney asked her on a date, only to have her mother firmly say no.

In time, Midge became the heart and soul of the San Fernando Valley Historical Society and helped oversee the Andrés Pico Adobe, and her passion for the site and its history was truly contagious. Over the years she served the Society in many roles—President, Immediate Past President, Curator—and gave her energy and dedication to every project she touched.

Even after stepping down as Curator, Midge continued to make newcomers feel welcome, often sending handwritten notes to new members. That thoughtful gesture was so very Midge.

Midge passed away peacefully at the age of 96, leaving behind a loving family and countless friends who cherished her warmth and kindness.

Though she is gone, her presence remains at the Adobe—in every story shared, every tour given, and every corner touched by her care.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Mark Masek. Many of you will remember him from his presentation on Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery back in March 2024.

Mark was a gifted writer and the author of Hollywood Remains to Be Seen, along with several guidebooks that inspired and guided a new generation of grave hunters. Through his work, he encouraged curiosity, respect, and a deep appreciation for the forgotten stories found in cemeteries and in Hollywood history. His books didn’t just provide directions — they opened doors to discovery.

He will be greatly missed. Mark was truly a kind and generous person.
