Congratulations to Barbara Thomas Pool, recipient of the Gregg County Historical Museum's 2026 Preservation Award, the museum's highest honor. Barbara has devoted her life to preserving the history, culture, and spirit of Longview through extraordinary leadership and community involvement. Throughout the years, she has consistently recognized opportunities where others saw obstacles, inspiring countless people to invest their time, talents, and resources to strengthen the community. Her lasting influence can be seen in the organizations she has led and the people she has encouraged along the way.
A lifelong Longview resident, Barbara was was raised on Sixth Street alongside her brothers, John Nay Thomas and George Preston Thomas. After graduating from Longview High School, she continued her education at Stephens College before earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Southern Methodist University. Following a brief career in advertising and public relations in Garland, Barbara returned home to build a successful career in real estate and later played a vital role in the revitalization of the historic First National Bank Building and helping transform it into the Summit Club.
Barbara's greatest legacy is her unwavering commitment to serving others. She has provided leadership for numerous organizations, including the Junior League of Longview, Women's Council of Realtors, Longview Fine Arts Club, Longview ISD Foundation, the Gregg County Historical Museum Advisory Board, and many other civic, educational, cultural, and church organizations. Barbara has devoted decades to making Longview a stronger and more vibrant place to live. The Gregg County Historical Museum is proud to recognize Barbara Thomas Pool with the 2026 Preservation Award in appreciation of her remarkable dedication and the enduring legacy she continues to leave on our community.

The Gregg County Historical Museum is excited to share that renovations are underway for our new Military Exhibit and Library area . This space will provide visitors with a place to explore military history, conduct research, and honor the men and women who have served our country.

We are looking for a conference table to serve as the centerpiece of our new library area. If you or your business has a gently used conference table you would like to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. Your donation will help create a welcoming space where students, researchers, veterans, and visitors can gather to learn and reflect.

What a wonderful morning at GCHM!

We were delighted to welcome the sweet students and teachers from Wee Learn Center for a special visit. From exploring our exhibits to sharing smiles and learning together, it was a joy to have these curious young minds with us.
