Visit Kleefeld Contemporary to see our new Fall 2026 exhibitions. Artwork by Peter Carr will be on view September 9 - December 10.

✏️ Harry Lawson “Peter” Carr (1925-1981) produced a prolific body of work that advocated for people-powered movements fighting against war, U.S. imperialism, corporate greed, and environmental plunder. A dedicated peace activist, Carr’s frenetic poetry, art books, political posters, and paintings emphatically advanced his personal sense of urgency to collectively organize for survival in the face of capitalist and militarist destruction. Working diligently until his sudden death in 1981, Carr developed a visual lexicon of people’s struggle that is humanistic, highly expressive, and deeply poetic. “Peter Carr: This Is How We Will All Be Saved” explores Carr’s deft use of text and image to speak truth to power and to move people from complacency to action.

❤️‍🔥 “Jacqueline Valenzuela: In Practice of Return” explores memory, ritual, and place through a selection of Valenzuela’s work across different media. The exhibition includes paintings, altars, and mixed media presented together as an assemblage that showcases their material breadth and interwoven devotional themes. For Valenzuela, artistic exploration is itself a sacred ritual where the spiritual realm merges with the everyday. Valenzuela draws deep inspiration from her life immersed in Chicano lowrider culture, incorporating personal stories and those of people from her community into her practice. Each work becomes a meditation on what it means to hold space for community—how to continually return to a place, honor and protect it, and keep its memory alive. Valenzuela received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from CSULB in 2019.

We’re SO EXCITED to announce that Fall 2026 exhibitions at Kleefeld Contemporary will open September 9, 2026! 🎉 Artwork by Carol Anne McChrystal (Carol Anne McChrystal ) will be on view September 9 - December 10 as part of our Fall 2026 exhibitions.

💚 “Carol Anne McChrystal: Export Quality” invites reflection on the entanglement of land and livelihood, shelter and home, and cultural continuity and connection. Inspired by weavers and handicraft workers in the Philippines, and drawing on her own diasporic background, McChrystal presents a selection of handwoven objects that visualize the material conditions of Filipinos in the homeland and overseas.
