The tour starts at the Tapping Reeve Meadow where we will enjoy historically inspired cocktails and treats before grabbing lanterns and heading into the darkness to learn about the violent and scandalous side of Litchfield’s history.

Thank you to everyone who came to see the First Oval Office Project last weekend! Over the course of the weekend, this replica from the Museum of the American Revolution saw hundreds of schoolchildren, families, and hosted our annual Fall Fundraiser. Welcomed by six excellent interpreters, visitors were able to step inside and see for themselves how life on campaign may have been like for Gen. George Washington.

We are immensely grateful to the Museum of the American Revolution and the First Oval Office Project team for bringing this amazing experience to Litchfield. Their knowledge and dedication truly made camp come to life!

More thanks to our sponsors and grantors who helped make each part of the weekend possible:

For the Family Day: William Pitt, West Group Law, America 250 CT Commission, National Iron Bank, and Northwest CT Community Foundation.

For our Fall Fundraiser: Torrington Savings Bank, Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP, The Litchfield Inn, and West Group Law.

This Saturday, October 3 is a busy day in the Tapping Reeve Meadow as a handsewn reproduction of General George Washington’s mobile headquarters sets up camp!

The Museum of the American Revolution's First Oval Office Project is open to visit during our Family day from 9 am to 3 pm. Explore the encampment inside and out through immersive educational programming; try out replica equipment, tools, and uniforms, and engage with living history interpreters who bring to life the stories of the diverse people and complex events surrounding the Revolutionary War.

Then, for our Fall Fundraiser, immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Revolution as the Tapping Reeve Meadow is transformed by the setting sun and illuminated by campfire and lantern. Enjoy fine bites and historically-inspired cocktails while you explore the First Oval Office Project and experience the full ambiance that can only be felt at a night in camp.

Find information and purchase tickets for both events on our calendar here: www.litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org/calendar-grid/
