Some of the beautiful items currently on display in Native Americans of New Jersey: Past & Present are on generous loan from the Powhatan Renape Nation. These remarkable pieces help tell the story of Indigenous culture, artistry, and traditions that continue to thrive today.
From pottery and ceremonial objects to regalia and handcrafted garments, each item offers visitors a deeper understanding of Native lifeways, craftsmanship, and cultural expression. We are incredibly grateful to the Powhatan Renape Nation for their partnership, support, and generous loan of these important works.
The Powhatan Renape Nation is one of New Jersey’s state-recognized tribes and has worked tirelessly to preserve and share Native history, traditions, language, and cultural practices. Their contributions help ensure that Indigenous voices are represented authentically and respectfully throughout this exhibition.
We invite you to visit the Main Gallery and experience these extraordinary objects firsthand while exploring the rich history, resilience, and living cultures of Native Americans in New Jersey.
