200 Years, Endless Facts! A significant skirmish during the Black Hawk War occurred near present-day Waddams Grove, Illinois on June 18, 1832. Captain James W. Stephenson led a group of volunteer militia from Galena in pursuit of a Sauk party. The ensuing battle resulted in several casualties on both sides.
