Step back in time to explore regional history, the legendary Lone Star steamboat, and the life of Buffalo Bill Cody. The museum houses Buffalo Bill memorabilia, the wood-hulled steamboat "Lone Star" (the last working one of its kind on the Mississippi River; listed on the National Historic Register), riverboat pilot exhibits, Sauk and Fox tribe artifacts, and displays of pioneer life from the region. It also featues exhibits on two "famous sons" - - James Eads, the world famous engineer of the Eads Bridge in St.Louis, MO; and James Ryan, the inventor of the Flight Data Recorder or the "black box."

Did you know LeClaire is the hometown of a basketball gold medalist? 🥇🏀Meet Betty Claussen, a LeClaire High School graduate who represented Team USA in the first-ever World Tournament of Women's Basketball in Santiago, Chile, in 1953!

Amazingly, Betty had never even seen a basketball until her freshman year of high school. After leading her college team to a state championship, she earned a spot on the 10-member USA squad. To fund their trip, the team played exhibition games across South America and had to quickly adapt to unfamiliar international rules.

Despite wild weather delays and rowdy crowds, Betty and Team USA brought home the gold! Inducted into the Iowa Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992, she turned down a professional contract and returned to her roots right here in LeClaire.
