Join us as author Erin Napier and artist Adam Trest discuss their new book, The Christmas House. This eloquent celebration of being home for the holidays captures the essence of cherished Christmas memories and is a holiday companion to their bestselling book, The Lantern House. Miya Ando’s Mofuku recreates the shape of a traditional mourning kimono using dyed anodized aluminum squares linked with steel rings. Based on her family’s formal mourning garment, the piece includes five family crests associated with the Ando clan. The work reflects grief, protection, and resilience through industrial materials transformed into a contemplative sculpture.

KIMONO: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse was organized by Meher McArthur and is toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, DC. The exhibition is on view through November 8, 2026.

"Rope Kimono II" by Kristine Aono uses plaster, rope, maple leaves, and wire mesh to explore stereotypes and expectations placed on Asian women. The tightly bound form suggests pressure and constraint, while the interior holds fragile natural materials that hint at the inner self. The work reflects identity, cultural history, and personal experience.
