Maria Papatzelou’s Second Skin is a washi paper kimono layered with pigments, gold leaf, maps, and pencil work. Inspired by Japanese mythology and the symbolism of the kimono, Papatzelou explores transformation, identity, and impermanence. The work reflects how a traditional form can shift meaning depending on who wears it and where it is placed.

KIMONO: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse was organized by Meher McArthur and is toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, DC. The exhibition is on view through November 8, 2026.

There are only a few days left to experience "In Threes: Photographs by Maude Schuyler Clay, Langdon Clay, and Sophia Clay." This multigenerational exhibition offers a rare look at how time, family, and place shape an artistic legacy. Don’t miss the chance to see these works before the exhibition closes on August 30.

Curated by Ashley Gates, the exhibition is presented by The Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia and generously sponsored by First State Bank.

This Showa-period furisode features yuzen paste-resist dyeing and couched metallic embroidery. Cranes and pine trees symbolize longevity, chrysanthemums signal imperial associations, and the Uji Bridge motif references the Tale of Genji. Together, these designs communicate status and make the garment suitable for weddings and other auspicious occasions.

KIMONO: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse was organized by Meher McArthur and is toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, DC. The exhibition is on view through November 8, 2026.
