Congratulations to our incredible Alejandra Maese-Mora for a successfully defended Master's thesis, "Death of Curiosity? From Cabinets of Curiosity to University Museums". This thesis (and its accompanying exhibit, located on the ground floor east gallery of the museum) challenges perceptions about museums and the artifacts within them. Alejandra has been an absolute force of nature in the museum for the last two years. She has worked on two grant projects and three of the four current exhibits. Beyond that, she knows exactly where everything is, and how everything works in the building. She is leaving big shoes to fill here, and we are anticipating big, wondrous things from her in the future! Well done, Ale!!! (please note: mummy is artificial)

Congratulations to Samantha Nava, who defended her MA thesis yesterday! Her thesis, "Stories of Querencia from San Miguel del Bado,” uses oral history interviews to understand how heirs of the San Miguel del Bado Land Grant maintain their sense of connection to that place. Samantha is an essential part of the NMSU University Museum team, and is currently working on a grant-funded project to develop bilingual interpretive material. We will miss her when she leaves us in the fall, but are excited to see what she does next!

Well, that's a wrap! The University Museum will be closed for the summer (except by appointment) as we work with student interns on some important housekeeping projects. Regular visiting hours will resume on August 24.

Congratulations to all of our graduating students! We will miss you! And we will see the rest of you again in the fall.
