Featuring the Wright-designed Usonian Faculty House and GEICO Gift Shop, the Sharp Family Tourism & Education Center was opened as part of an ongoing effort to better educate visitors about the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture at Florida Southern College. The Center provides a home for the permanent display of photographs, furniture, and drawings depicting Wright’s 20-year relationship with Florida Southern College. The Center also acts as a home for visiting exhibits on loan from various other Wright sites. In 2012, the Florida Southern College Historic District was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior for being the largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture in the world. The site features 13 Wright-designed structures, 12 of which were built during Wright's lifetime and under his supervision. The site is perhaps the most fully articulated expression of Wright's vision and features several unique pieces of Wright history, such as his last specially commissioned stained glass work, his only constructed planetarium, his only theatre-in-the-round, and more. Our docent-led tours start at $30, with our more in-depth tour at $45 per person.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s textile blocks are one of the defining features of his buildings on Florida Southern’s “Child of the Sun” campus.

The blocks were designed to give the buildings a warm, distinctly Floridian character. Wright took this idea a step further by incorporating small pieces of tinted glass into select blocks, allowing light and color to become part of the architecture.

These subtle details bring an unexpected touch of color and light to the campus, revealing another layer of Wright’s vision to visitors who pause to take a closer look.

At the heart of Florida Southern College’s campus stands Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1941.

The chapel was built primarily by Florida Southern students in exchange for tuition and board, making its story deeply connected to the College community.

More than eight decades later, Annie Pfeiffer Chapel remains an integral part of the College's campus, and a place where students, faculty, and visitors continue to gather and experience Wright’s vision.

The Usonian House brings one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s original visions for Florida Southern College to life in modern day.

President Ludd M. Spivey once asked Wright to design a collection of faculty homes to surround the campus. While those original homes were never built, Wright’s plans eventually inspired the Usonian House, which was constructed in 2013 with the help of MIT engineers.

Today, the Usonian House offers a glimpse into Wright’s architectural vision, showcasing his distinctive approach to design both inside and out. It stands as a unique reminder of the enduring spirit of Wright's design on Florida Southern's campus.

The Lucius Pond Ordway Building is a striking example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s belief that architecture should be both beautiful and purposeful.

Completed in 1952, the building was originally designed as an industrial arts center, housing spaces for carpentry, metalworking, automobile mechanics, cooking, and home economics. Wright considered Ordway one of his personal favorites on the Florida Southern campus because of its simplicity and practicality.

Today, Ordway has taken on a new chapter as the home of Florida Southern College’s School of Architecture, giving the next generation of architects the opportunity to learn inside a piece of Wright’s legacy.

From intricate screens to patterned textile blocks, Frank Lloyd Wright designed Florida Southern’s “Child of the Sun” campus with an eye for both beauty and nature.

These patterned screens, found connected to the Esplanades, create a sense of rhythm and movement while allowing light, air and glimpses of the surrounding landscape to pass through.
