ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | Marina Nimmo

From her studio in South West France, British artist Marina Nimmo creates intricately hand-built ceramic sculptures inspired by the natural environment that surrounds her - from shifting seasons to the movement of rivers and tides.

Beginning with spontaneous drawings, Marina translates line and movement into clay, building each sculpture entirely by hand. As the clay reaches its leather-dry stage, she meticulously pares back and refines the surface, gradually transforming substantial forms into delicate, organic structures that appear almost impossibly light.

We are delighted to welcome Marina’s practice to the GW Contemporary program and to present her work in our current exhibition, Where We Meet, on view through November 1.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | Elizabeth Waggett

Manchester-born British artist Elizabeth Waggett, currently based in Texas, creates richly layered works that explore the relationship between light, material, time and labor.

Her ongoing Light Paintings combine precious metals with impressions of antique lace and textiles - connecting the work to Manchester’s rich industrial textile heritage and histories of skilled, often unseen labor. Built through dozens of layers and repeated physical interventions, their surfaces are abraded, oxidized and transformed by hand.

Gold is not simply decorative, but a material that both conceals and reveals. As light moves across each surface, patterns emerge and recede, continually shifting our perception of the work.

Waggett’s work is currently featured in Where We Meet at GW Contemporary.

Last week, GW Contemporary had the privilege of celebrating its first anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony officiated by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce, with representatives from the City of Laguna Beach, the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the California State Assembly and the United States Congress in attendance.

Receiving this recognition was an incredibly meaningful moment - not only as a small business owner, but as a reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of such a supportive community.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone and to all who have supported GW Contemporary throughout its first year.

Marking the first anniversary of GW Contemporary, 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘦 π˜”π˜¦π˜¦π˜΅ brings together artists from Australia, Europe and across the United States, celebrating the gallery’s first chapter - and the beginning of its next.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘦 π˜”π˜¦π˜¦π˜΅ is a title with many meanings. Over the past year, the gallery has become a place where artists, collectors and the wider community have gathered through exhibitions, conversations and shared experiences. It is equally a meeting place for the works themselves, allowing distinct perspectives and artistic practices from around the world to resonate in unexpected ways.

Connection has always been at the heart of GW Contemporary. It is the thread that runs through this show and continues to shape everything we pursue.

One year ago, GW Contemporary opened its doors with a clear ambition: to create a place where exceptional contemporary art could be experienced with intention, and where meaningful connections between artists, collectors, and community could flourish.

As we mark our first anniversary, we’re grateful to the artists who have entrusted us with their work, the collectors who have welcomed it into their homes, and everyone who has supported the gallery over the past year.

Our first anniversary exhibition, Where We Meet, is now open and we are so excited for everything that’s ahead.

Introducing | Julian Meagher

GW Contemporary is delighted to welcome Australian artist Julian Meagher, whose new body of work is presented in Where We Meet.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Meagher’s luminous paintings inhabit the space between landscape, memory and imagination. Working in delicate veils of oil paint, he captures fleeting moments of light and atmosphere, inviting quiet reflection on hope, renewal and the passage of time.

The most memorable conversations often begin with art.

Earlier this month, GW Contemporary welcomed Pontis Wealth Partners of Rockefeller Capital Management for an intimate evening centered around art, thoughtful conversation, and connection.

Following a private viewing of the gallery, guests gathered for dinner by Chef Matthew Roberts and a discussion exploring collecting, stewardship, and legacy.

A special thank you to UOVO for their generous support of the evening, and to DCFA Consultancy for the introduction that brought this group together.
