LYNN WELKER has been drawn to water again and again this summer. Perhaps the high temperatures are calling her to splash around and cool off.

In Quarry Lake, she imagines a place where you can hop right in—or simply dangle your toes while looking up at the quarry above. Tucked among the trees, it is a quiet place to pause and rest for a while.

The tall, narrow format also makes Quarry Lake an especially versatile piece for the home. Swipe for two room settings to see how beautifully the painting works in different spaces. Framed in a slender, dark wood floating frame, it has a clean, sophisticated presence that works with a range of interiors.

Have a tall, narrow wall that needs just the right piece? Contact us for more information.

Come see Lynn’s work in person at Sandstone Gallery, on Laguna Beach’s Gallery Row. Stroll through the gallery, discover the work of our resident artists, and find something that speaks to you. You can also find Lynn’s work at the prestigious Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach, wrapping up its 60 days on Thursday evening, September 3.

Sandstone Gallery is pleased to present our second month of a Featured Artist Show by Resident Artist Kristen Guest, with new pieces added to the collection. The show is on view throughout the gallery’s lower floor and windows through September 28.

Kristen’s show celebrates all things summer. Rooted in Southern California and inspired by travels to Hawaii and Palm Springs, her work reflects the warmth, openness, and ease of modern coastal and resort-inspired living. Her entire collection reminds us of moments when life feels less rushed—of afternoons that linger, salt air, bare feet, palm trees swaying, and time spent relaxing. Simplified forms and softened details create an elevated, relaxed mood, offering a modern interpretation of life by the water.

Sandstone Gallery resident artist LINDA BROOKS is an abstract artist and printmaker from Southern California.

Linda combines printmaking, painting, and paper collage. She is especially engaged by the studio process of taking raw materials and shaping them into something resolved and cohesive. Her work explores tension, balance, and structural rhythm, with an interest in the interplay of opposites—the push and pull between subtlety and dynamism, and between organic and geometric forms.

Originally from New York, Linda now works from her studio in Tustin, California.

We’re pleased to always have a collection of Linda’s work on view at Sandstone Gallery.

Shown here are two beautiful pieces by our resident artist LAWRENCE MCADAMS that are currently on view in the gallery. Lawrence is known for his distinctive brand of “Narrative Realism,” combining strong draftsmanship, rich color and carefully constructed scenes that invite us into the possible stories that unfold in each artwork.

Born and raised in Southern California, Lawrence has a lifelong connection to the ocean and surfing, which figures prominently in his work. His paintings often place figures within beautifully composed California settings, balancing everyday moments with a touch of mystery, nostalgia and possibility.

Lawrence’s paintings have been exhibited in many galleries and cultural centers including: The Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach, CA; the San Francisco Fine Art Fair; the George Billis Gallery in NY, and Art Basel in Miami Beach. His work is in private and corporate collections, including Hurley International and the Hilbert Museum of California Art

Lawrence is also currently one of the exhibitors in the Festival of Arts here in Laguna Beach, a highly prestigious juried art show running through September 3

LESLIE ARNOLD, a resident artist in Sandstone Gallery, is a fine art printmaker from Irvine, California.

The four new pieces shown here show how each of Leslie’s one-of-a-kind prints explores the basic elements of composition and color, with the added goal of creating the illusion of three-dimensional space. Like many of the pieces Leslie creates, they are inspired by many stimuli - from the expanse and subtlety of the palette in a landscape to the ambiguity of depth of space, and the transformative quality of light.

MIA MOORE’s work brings together painting, collage, and found materials in a way that is distinctly her own. She began her art studies with an emphasis in printmaking, and that background still influences how she builds her surfaces—layer by layer, combining imagery, texture, color, and pattern.

This photo of just some of the pieces of Mia’s current installation at Sandstone Gallery offers a wonderful look at the range of her work. The smaller framed pieces on the left are painted mixed-media, incorporating collage and Asian-inspired imagery with brushwork, pattern, botanical forms, birds, and areas of rich color.

The tall three-dimensional work displayed alongside the paintings shows another side of Mia’s practice. Here, collage moves off the wall. Layered paper and painted surfaces are combined with bamboo, metal, carved pieces, beads, and other collected materials to create a sculptural composition beautifully encased in a plexiglass box frame. The materials retain their individual character while becoming part of a larger, carefully balanced arrangement.

Mia's work has a wonderful sense of discovery. She is drawn to materials that already have a story—the worn surface of an old paper, a fragment of an image, a handmade object, a piece collected during her travels—and brings them together with paint to create something entirely new. Her work is highly crafted but never feels overly precious. The combination of age and newness, delicate paper and substantial objects, painting and collage gives each piece its own character.

Mia has been part of the Laguna Beach art community for many years, exhibiting at the Festival of Arts for 30 years. Her work has been collected by public, private, and corporate collectors, and she has been a longtime resident artist at Sandstone Gallery.
